In a new trailer, publisher THQ Nordic showed off the supported languages for the upcoming game SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake. While many of the original English voice actors are providing the in-game dialogue, this latest video reveals that a number of other languages will have full voice acting as well.

First announced in September 2021, SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake is the latest in a long list of games starring SpongeBob and his undersea friends. The game is being developed by Purple Lamp, the developer of the 2020 game Battle for Bikini Bottom: Rehydrated, and is a 3D platformer that sees SpongeBob traveling to a number of locales, with some settings that should be very familiar to fans of the series. While details about the game have been relatively sparse, the publisher, THQ Nordic, recently revealed a new trailer that gave a look at some of the languages available in the upcoming title.

This latest trailer for SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake was titled “Languages are F.U.N.” which was an obvious reference to the Season 1 episode of the cartoon called “F.U.N.” In the video, SpongeBob and Patrick are seen talking to each other about blowing bubbles. While the scene first plays out in English, it soon repeats in a number of other languages that are supported for the game. These included German, French, Spanish, Polish, Japanese, Portuguese, Hindi, and Indonesian, according to the trailer.

In addition to making the game more accessible, it is worth pointing out that the voice acting managed to keep the same energetic charm that made SpongeBob and his Bikini Bottom pals so enjoyable, regardless of the language being spoken. The is because the original voice actors for the characters in those languages are the ones heard in the trailer for SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake and are expected to be in the final game as well.

In addition to showing off the impressive array of supported languages for SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake, this latest trailer gave players a glimpse of what appeared to be one of the opening cutscenes. As mentioned earlier, the clip started with SpongeBob and Patrick, his best friend, blowing bubbles. Unfortunately, the two learned too late that the bubble soap they were using was the property of King Neptune and was not supposed to be used by mortals. As is often the case in the world of SpongeBob, chaos ensued and caused a rift to open up, sucking up seemingly everything in Bikini Bottom.

While this latest trailer provided a look at languages, it did not give a release date for the upcoming game. Unfortunately, fans will still have to continue to wait to learn exactly when the game is coming out. On the bright side, the developer is targeting a 2023 launch, meaning that more details about SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake, including a release date, will likely be unveiled in the coming months.

SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake is in development for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
