The recent SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake gameplay trailer showcased the different friends SpongeBob and Balloon-Patrick will rescue as well as the different settings the two will travel through. The adventure keeps up the goofy and fun humorous atmosphere that fans came to love from the original SpongeBob SquarePants series.

As for the Bikini Bottomites the iconic goofy duo will find, the list includes Pearl, Mr. Krabs, Squidward, Sandy, Mrs. Puff, Gary, and more. The game showcases all friends in situations set in different time periods, such as the Stone Age, Medieval, and Western eras. SpongeBob and Balloon-Patrick also have to figure out how to save Gary, who has turned into an antagonistic “monster snail.” The game appears to pay homage to some of the best moments and ideas the SpongeBob SquarePants show used to create its best episodes. Fans will find a lot of familiarity in the trailer for Cosmic Shake, for sure.

The pop culture status of the yellow sponge cannot be understated or denied. Since his debut in 1999, Spongebob SquarePants has captured the hearts and laughs of generations of younger adults and children alike. If the success of SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated is anything to go by, the world of Bikini Bottom and all its characters have a lot of potential outside the cartoon show format. Fans don't have to wait much longer to see if it lives up to expectations.

SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake releases on January 31 for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
