SpongeBob Squarepants has molded the minds of millions of people. He and his friends have brought children and adults alike on whimsical adventures in Bikini Bottom, working at the Krusty Krab, jellyfishing, and getting into trouble with his best friend, Patrick Star, and disgruntled neighbor Squidward.

SpongeBob has spawned hundreds of cartoon episodes, three movies, and several video games. Among this content are memorable moments (mostly in the earlier seasons), as well as quotes that resonate with the fan base. They can apply to anything from work to time with friends and awkward situations. These quotes have become their own dialect. Here are just a few of them.

6 “CHOCOLATE!”

This one comes from the classic SpongeBob episode “Chocolate with Nuts,” in which SpongeBob and Patrick decide to become door-to-door chocolate salespeople in order to earn enough money for “fancy living.” One of the first doors they knock on is that of a man who seemingly is enraged by their offer of chocolate, and starts screaming at the top of his lungs and chases after them. It turns out he just wanted to buy all the chocolate.

Many land-dwellers love chocolate. It is sweet and melts in the mouth. Screaming its name is a perfect way to express one’s joy for this treat. Screaming chocolate guy shares this sentiment.

5 “This Is terrible! Who’s Going To Sign My Paycheck?”

Leave it to Squidward to say what he thinks. When King Neptune freezes Mr. Krabs in The SpongeBob Squarepants Movie for allegedly stealing his crown, Squidward is horrified. Anyone who doesn’t know Squidward will think that he is concerned for Mr. Krabs, but anyone who has watched SpongeBob knows better.

Squidward here reflects the common laborer, working strenuously for their biweekly paycheck that barely pays the bills. Most people don’t like the bosses that they work for, either. It must be frustrating to wait all that time to get their unjust compensation, only to have the source of that income put on ice.

4 “WHO ARE YOU PEOPLE?!”

Patrick (right) freaks out when he sees the eyes of complete strangers peering from under his rock.

When Patrick comes home at the end of “PreHibernation Week” with groceries and an ice cream cone, he finds multiple fish underneath his rock, hiding from Sandy’s relentless pursuit to find a runaway SpongeBob. Befuddled, Patrick shouts, “WHO ARE YOU PEOPLE?!”

This is a perfect line for any kind of confusing situation, such as being at a gathering with complete strangers or having unexpected company at the house. It is also good for individuals with social anxiety who seek a cathartic phrase during forced social interactions.

3 “You’re Good! You’re Good!”

In “Shanghaied,” SpongeBob and Patrick unwittingly become slaves of the ghostly pirate, the Flying Dutchman. Some of the tasks they are assigned include finding victims for the Dutchman to scare, as well as parking his ghost ship. This is not something that Patrick excels at, as he constantly grinds it up against giant rocks, with SpongeBob telling him, “You’re good. You’re good. You’re good.”

Parking properly can be a bit tricky if one is not careful. It is easy to dent or scratch a vehicle, which may result in a chunk out of one’s paycheck. It is helpful to have a co-pilot who can keep their eyes on where the vehicle is moving so that the Dutchman doesn’t get annoyed and decide to eat his slaves for dinner.

2 “Meep.”

The anchovies in the SpongeBob universe have an insatiable appetite for Krabby Patties. They will swarm the Krusty Krab to get their fix. They also communicate using a single word: Meep.

“Meep” is a versatile word that can be used to express puzzlement, astonishment, and even fear. When one anchovy checked outside a cave to be sure that it was all clear, he exuberantly called, “Meep meep! Meep meep!” Soon after, a King Jellyfish stings him, causing him to panic and shout “Meep meep! Meep meep!”

1 “Is This The Krusty Krab?”

When Patrick wants to win an award in “Big Pink Loser,” SpongeBob suggests starting out small and working his way up to it by working at the Krusty Krab. Unfortunately, Patrick has not had much experience answering the phone. Three times in a row, someone calls and asks, “Is this the Krusty Krab?,” and Patrick exasperatedly shouts, “NO! THIS IS PATRICK!”

Virtually everyone has had a wrong number before, and many others receive the wrong number. One might be tempted to shout, “This is Patrick!” if their phone is called mistakenly several times in a row. It is important to also remember that Krusty Krab is the name of the restaurant.
