SpongeBob Squarepants is a living part of many people's childhoods. For many years, the character has graced the screens of children all around the world and is even beloved to adults thanks to the hidden content within the show.

This childhood like quality transitioned to video games as well and with the remake of Spongebob Squarepants: Battle For Bikini Bottom, this love has essentially skyrocketed for a boatload of happy fans. However, there are some changes to the game that are different from the original yet many more that have stayed the same.

10 Same: General Art Style

Spongebob Squarepants is one of the most iconic cartoon characters in recent memory. This is thanks in no small part to the illustrious and famous art style that the series is especially known for. Thus it would be a little crazy if this aspect was removed.

This is one of the most obvious points to cover, as it needs to be recognizable. If it were removed in any way, this would have resulted in an immediate detraction from fans even if the style looks just like Spongebob. Of course, both the original and the remake maintain the cartoony world of Bikini Bottom.

9 Different: New Multiplayer Mode

One of the new features, the multiplayer mode is exclusive only to the remake version of the video game. This new multiplayer mode can be played either in split-screen in both local or online play. It will be essentially an entire horde mode that can be quite enticing for fans both old and new. Along with playing the characters of Spongebob, Patrick and Sandy the new multiplayer will be able to allow players to play Mr. Krabs, Squidward, and Plankton.

8 Same: The Story Is Still The Same

It wouldn't exactly be Spongebob Squarepants: Battle For Bikini Bottom if the game itself was told differently. Although it was generally different depending on the home console or portable systems, thankfully the remake is faithful to the original as it maintains the same story.

Not only is the story that is being told brought back to life in the greatest way possible, but it also maintains some of the tropes that every fan riddled with nostalgia will be absolutely thrilled with.

7 Different: New Bosses

Another new edition that the remake brought to the table is the brand new bosses. Taken from some of the cut content, one of the bosses that are being brought back that was originally not in the original was the Robo Squidward fight.

Fans will be thrilled to play content that wasn't in the original game and it could arguably be a way of going into memory lane for those that are aware of the development of the original.

6 Same: The Gameplay Is Pretty Much The Same

Once again a no-brainer for the fans who played the original, what looks quite amazing is that for the most part, the gameplay has remained generally the same.

Although there are obviously brand new effects and slight tweaks to the way the gameplay is handled, it is still a feat that everything is almost completely the same. Obviously with the new art style and graphical changes taken to account, it's the crispest that the game has ever been.

5 Different: Soundtrack Is Slightly Remastered

Probably one of the best changes added to the entire Spongebob Squarepants: Battle For Bikini Bottom Rehydrated, the soundtrack is still the exact same. However, they have all been remastered in order to meet with modern sensibilities. Almost in the same way that has been done with the DuckTales Remastered game, the tracks that most know of anyways, have been remastered slightly. So if fans are worried that it might sound completely different, rest assured that it will meet expectations.

4 Same: Voice Acting

It wouldn't exactly be Spongebob Squarepants if none of the original voice talents wasn't in the game. Everyone from Spongebob Squarepants, Patrick Star, Squidward, Plankton and many more. Unfortunately, that means that Clancy Brown is once again absent from the game as he didn't voice Mr.Krabs in the original game either.

In fact, considering the soundtrack, perhaps the sound quality of the voice acting will be the best it's ever gonna get. It will be quite the thrill to have everyone that fans know and love to all be accounted for, as the rehydrated version ensures that it stays true to the quality of the original.

3 Different: Graphics

The most obvious distinctive difference between the classic game and the newly remastered version, the graphics that are shown in the Rehydrated edition is nothing short of extraordinary. Not only is every color popping, but the graphical textures have also been improved dramatically.

Instead of the rough 2000s textures, players will finally see the little details that are shown on every wall and grass that is growing in the world of Spongebob Squarepants.

2 Same: Characters To Play As

At least with the main campaign anyways, every character that fans know and love will be returning. That and also being fully playable in a new remastered environment. As brought up originally, the gameplay, for the most part, is generally the same only polished.

Of course, the multiplayer mode will be a different story, as due to the new horde mode system, players are able to play even more characters that weren't available in the main campaign.

1 Different: Some Bosses Have New Redesigns

Finally, the last new change that is slightly different but is still quite fantastic is the bosses. Although the boss fights are all the same and are quite recognizable for those that love the game, there are some differences that some fans may notice.

For starters, the robo-bosses all have a slightly different redesign. Robo-Spongebob, for example, has different looking eyes and the color scheme of Robo-Sandy's face is slightly different from what is seen from the original game. Just some fun little things that can be easy to miss.
