What started as an iconic meme-worth fan project has evolved into a fully fleshed out anime series.

Back in 2017, A YouTuber by the name of "Narmak" released a video titled "The SpongeBob SquarePants Anime - OP 1 (Original Animation)." That video quickly took the internet by storm for its quality animation and quirky humor, currently receiving over 17 million views.

After receiving an overwhelming amount of positivity towards the video, Narmak decided to leap into development for the massive project. Narmak has continued to provide project updates on his Discord and Twitter accounts, and even uploading extra anime openings for the series on his channel.

And just yesterday, after six months of animating by himself, Narmak has released the trailer for the first episode on YouTube. A video that fans are claiming was worth waiting for three years.

Even though Narmak animated this by himself, he was not alone in the endeavor. He had help from some other collaborators such as John Wang, who directed the English and Japanese Dubs, and fellow YouTubers Red and Seycara, who composed the soundtrack for the series.

Narmak has commented that after some final touches to sound design, the first episode will be made available within two weeks. Fans are excited to finally see this concept come to life, even coming up with names for possible storylines such as the "Gary Come Home" and the "Bubbly Buddy" arc. This project all goes to show that hard work pays off.
