It was a big year for multiplayer shooters last year, and Splitgate led the pack. As a surprise for many players, the game still proved that the genre can innovate. Splitgate offers a wide variety of options in terms of gameplay. With each new season comes something new, giving players a reason to come back. On top of being free-to-play, Splitgate is quite competitive, making it a rather fleshed-out game overall.

As this excellent shooter enters its second season, there's a ton for players both new and old to try. One of the new modes introduced in this season, Juggernaut, pits one player against the entire lobby. This mode is a hybrid of team deathmatch and free-for-all. This mode requires players some time to get used to, since the Juggernaut changes whenever they're killed. Before jumping into a match, read up on these tips to help master the new mode.

5 Stay On The Move

If players finds themselves in the role of the Juggernaut, this is even more important because they're being hunted. Mobility is important in Splitgate in general, because it makes players harder to hit. While players can lock down a small section of the map, moving is always the best strategy. It makes killing other players easier, because the Juggernaut will always be baiting the others.

However, being the Juggernaut is quite challenging. Although they are faster and more powerful, they can't open portals, so players will have to fall back on always moving. Moving keeps the Juggernaut alive longer, allowing them to score more points. Even when players are not the Juggernaut, it's a good idea to keep moving because of the power weapon drops that appear at random times. When players go for those early in the match, dethroning the Juggernaut becomes easier.

4 Place Portals Carefully

For every player that isn't the Juggernaut, placing portals makes it easier to take down the overpowered player. However, placing is essential. For example, on the Stadium Arena map, looking for walls will help players either get away from the Juggernaut, or surprise them. Because the Juggernaut can't open portals, their options are limited, so getting the jump on them is easier that way.

Using portals allows all players to keep close contact with the Juggernaut, which makes it easier to take them down. This helps balance the game mode, since the Juggernaut will always be a different player. Placing portals correctly also allows players to get unique kills, which in turn makes them harder to get killed by the Juggernaut.

3 Close Gates

As mentioned before, Juggernauts can't portal, so other players can use that mechanic against the Juggernaut. One thing players don't do often destroy is enemy portals, which can be done by throwing EMP grenades at them. When playing as the Juggernaut, destroying portals is more important, because an enemy player can come or shoot through a portal to kill the Juggernaut.

This is one of the main things that Splitgate tries to hammer into players' heads: make sure to close enemy portals. When the Juggernaut is trying to escape or fight off enemies, the last they need is a player surprising them with a portal. Closing an enemy portal as soon as it opens immediately slows the opponent down and throws a wrench into their strategy.

2 Choose A Good Weapon

This tip works for both the Juggernaut and everyone else — and Splitgate has tons of weapons for players to pick from. However, not all weapons are equal in power, so players will need to experiment with what weapons they want to use. If players arm themselves with some stronger weapons, winning becomes easier. Because the Juggernaut has more health, having a weapon that can take off chunks of heath is always a good idea.

As mentioned before, if players go for the power weapons early on, taking on the Juggernaut will be less of a challenge, because of how much damage they do. For players who become the Juggernaut, weapons make them a real threat. Combined with their speed and health, they allow them to stay alive longer.

1 Learn the Maps

As the Juggernaut, a strong understanding of the map allows the player to escape or fight more aggressively. Splitgate has a ton of maps that all provide different types of play styles, which makes each match unique. With the knowledge of all the maps' nooks and crannies, players can get the jump on enemies, or can get out of bad situations quickly. In turn, this gives them a chance to be the Juggernaut longer, which leads them to win the match.

This tip works best when players are always moving, as they will be even harder to hit. With Juggernaut having more speed, learning the map is much easier, but players should note that an enemy player could always be around the corner. Since Juggernauts can't open portals, knowing where they are in the map and how to escape is a huge advantage.
