Splitgate has become a phenomenon in the online FPS space, spiking in popularity and becoming one of the most-played games these past few weeks. Developer 1047 Games is looking to keep fans engaged with Splitgate through a variety of content updates, as is typical of a live service game, and it seems those future plans will apparently include new Ranked game modes, if a recent Twitter poll is any indication.

The official Splitgate Twitter account posted a poll asking fans if they would rather see Ranked 2v2 or Ranked Showdown. At the time of this writing, there is only Ranked 4v4 (with Domination and King of the Hill as match types) and Ranked Takedown. 69.3% of the 47,285 people that voted in the poll say that they want to see a Ranked 2v2 mode added to Splitgate, whereas 30.7% want to see Ranked Showdown.

For those unfamiliar with Splitgate's match types, both Showdown and Takedown have stood out as being fairly unique. Showdown is a 3v3 game mode where players spawn in with randomized loadouts, whereas Takedown is a 3v3 mode where spawn times increase with each death. These two modes take place on specific Splitgate maps, whereas the rest of the match types use other maps, further helping them standout from the pack.

It's unclear if Splitgate will be adding either proposed Ranked Mode anytime soon, however. As it stands, Splitgate's planned release date was delayed and a new one still hasn't been announced, so it seems that the developers will likely want to focus on properly launching the game first. In-game information points to Splitgate's first season possibly kicking off in one week, on August 24, and if that's accurate then it seems that could very well be the game's new release date.

Of course, the Splitgate release date could always get pushed back again. The reason why the game was delayed in the first place was due to Splitgate's unforeseen level of popularity, requiring the developers to upgrade their servers and implement a queue system to accommodate the sheer number of people trying to play the FPS.

There is some stiff competition for Splitgate on the horizon, most notably from free-to-play Halo Infinite, but the game's availability on PlayStation platforms and plans to expand to mobile and Switch should go a long way to ensure that it maintains its playerbase. As long as the developers keep Splitgate fans engaged with new content drops on a regular basis, there's no reason to think that the game won't maintain its high level of popularity.

Splitgate is playable in beta on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions also in development.
