Fans who are eagerly awaiting the release of the sequel to Nintendo's iconic ink-based shooter Splatoon might be happy to learn that the title's manga adaptation will be officially getting an English release. The manga series has been in production since 2015, where it was published in Japan's Corocoro Comic magazine. Now it will be available for the first time in English, claims a recent announcement from publisher Viz Media.

The comic is designed for all-ages and features four Inklings that are caught up in Splatoon's long-running Turf War. According to Viz Media, the story contains "all-new adventures inspired by the hit Nintendo video game." Hinodeya Sankichi is the artist responsible for this new adaptation of the Wii U best-seller and his first book's cover has already been revealed, though no release date or pricing details are available just yet.

With Splatoon 2 just around the corner, Nintendo is sure to be pushing their new IP hard in the coming few weeks and we're certain that this won't be the only time we'll be seeing the squids appearing on new products. The recent release of Mario Kart Deluxe for the Nintendo Switch even included the Inklings as new playable characters in Nintendo's remastered version of the popular Wii U title.

The hype for a new addition to the franchise is so great that Nintendo has taken to selling empty Splatoon 2 boxes to appease the more eager fans. Despite not containing anything at all, the cardboard is still on sale in Japan, suggesting that there must be at least some gamers who are willing to part with their hard-earned cash just to purchase the unusual collector's item.

Once the game launches, teams around the world will go head to head, doing their best to cover more of the battleground in colored ink than their opponents. While the game is great for casual players, competitive teams that want to test their skill can compete in competitions all around the globe, something that it seems Nintendo is very eager to push, judging by their scheduled E3 exhibition tournament.

Splatoon is available now for Wii U. Splatoon 2 will release on July 21 for the Nintendo Switch.
