One of Nintendo's most anticipated games coming out next year is Splatoon 3. Fans were given an extensive look into what to expect in the latest trailer, which was showcased in a recent Nintendo Direct. This contained both the game's multiplayer and single player content, including the staple turf war mode, as well as the new threat that players will face, Return of the Mammalians. Other things included were the plethora of new locations that can be found in the story mode, with a variety of colorful levels to travel.

As for the multiplayer content of Splatoon 3, the trailer showed off the new hub world, Splatsville, as well as various stages and weapons. This included the first footage of new special weapons like the Crab Tank and Zip Caster. It also showed off some fashionable inklings and octolings hanging around in the game, giving players a look at some new gear and outfits that they can buy to suit their style. More information of two new special weapons in Splatoon 3 were posted by Nintendo on Twitter.

In Splatoon 3, special Weapons are powerful tools that are available once the player fills up their Special Gauge. These in-game screenshots of the Special Weapon show that these two weapons are modified versions of some returning special weapons. The first one is the Killer Wail 5.1, a modified version of the Killer Wail weapon from the first game. Much like its original version, it is a special weapon that shoots out a deadly laser in a line. With the Killer Wail 5.1 however, there are six smaller megaphones shooting at the same time. Moreover, they all move independently and have chasing capabilities.

The other new Splatoon 3 Special Weapon is known as the Big Bubbler, based on Splatoon 1's Bubbler. The original weapon shielded the player by surrounding them in a bubble that could shrug off enemy fire, and could be passed along to their teammates by touching them. The Big Bubbler gets rid of this passing mechanic in favor of it being placed in a single location. From there, it would grow to a larger barrier that would then help protect both the player and their team from enemy ink.

These weapons show the creativity behind Splatoon 3's team, with the exciting defensive and offensive options available for players to choose from. These new weapons, along with the ambitious story mode of Return of the Mammalians, are evidence of the developers putting a lot of thought behind this sequel. Fans have commented on these new weapons, noting how their nature fits the chaotic post-apocalyptic setting of Splatoon 3.

Splatoon 3 is scheduled to release in 2022 for the Nintendo Switch.
