A concept for a new boss for Splatoon 3's Salmon Run mode has been made by a fan. Salmon Run was first introduced in Splatoon 2 and returned for Splatoon 3 with a new set of bosses and maps in tow.

Salmon Run is a horde-type mode that has players fighting against Salmonids to collect golden eggs across at least three rounds. The primary enemies encountered are lesser Salmonids which travel in packs and use melee attacks, but acquiring golden eggs requires players to fight Splatoon 3's Salmon Run bosses that use their own special abilities. These eggs must then be collected and deposited into a basket before time runs out.

Many Salmon Run boss abilities are based on the special weapons in Splatoon 3's multiplayer, such as the Drizzler boss whose ability is similar to the Ink Storm weapon, or the Big Shot which fires projectiles similar to the Wave Breaker. A fan of the game who goes by the Reddit username Sharkino0710 shared their concept for a new Salmon Run boss called the Stewdrone. It seems to be designed after a pot of salmon stew but with propellors on either side and a large vacuum tube coming from the bottom.

In an update post, the creator of the Stewdrone shared some details on the boss' function. Its primary ability would be styled after a special weapon called the Ink Vac which vacuums up players' ink at short range. To defeat it, players would throw a Splat Bomb into its vacuum, clogging the tube and opening the lid which would let players blast away at the Salmonid. This method of defeating a Splatoon 3 Salmon Run boss is most similar to that of the Maws and the Flyfish, both of which are best defeated through a careful throw of the Splat Bomb.

Like other online multiplayer games, Splatoon 3 has been updated with new content since its launch, including a new map for Salmon Run. However, these additions could be bolstered by the addition of new Salmon Run bosses that could shake up the game's meta and take advantage of new weapons and special abilities. Fan creations like this show that there is still plenty of untapped potential for Salmon Run bosses. Splatoon 3 has currently only received one major content patch with the launch of the game's Chill Season in December 2022, so there is still plenty of time for Nintendo to add to the current offerings of Splatoon 3.

Splatoon 3 is available now on Nintendo Switch.
