Splatoon 3's Pokemon Splatfest has come to an end, and the results have been announced, with a decisive winner to celebrate. Players batted it out over the weekend in a Splatfest celebration collaborating with Pokemon, to celebrate and promote the upcoming release of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

The Splatoon series has held Splatfests since its incarnation, tasking players with choosing a team associated with an answer to a question, like whether ice cream is better than cake. In Splatoon 3, the mode allows for players to join one of three teams, and this particular Splatfest partnered with Pokemon, letting players choose from Grass-, Fire-, or Water-type starters to declare the best.

Over the course of the weekend, players furiously battled it out to defend their teams, but one came out the distinct winner over the others. The final results have now been revealed, with an impressive sweep for Big Man's team, Water-type Pokemon. The Water-type Pokemon team won the pre-Splatfest period for number of conch shells won, as well as open and pro battles and the popular vote.

Shiver and Frye's Grass- and Fire-type teams put up a fight, but ultimately couldn't meet the same numbers as the Big Man's Water-type team.

Players fought hard during the Splatfest, not only due to the extreme popularity of Pokemon, but because no Splatfest was offered during the game's second month of release, October. So far, the next Splatfest or the long-awaited Big Run mode have yet to be announced, so there's no certainties regarding what players will see next. However, the first season of the game is coming to a close at the end of November. At that time, the game's catalog will reset, letting players earn new items and nameplate splashtags for their efforts in battles and Salmon Run, so players will have plenty to get excited over soon.

Splatfests are an opportunity to refresh the turf war formula a little, giving players a chance to party in the square and see their favorite maps at nighttime, all while earning sea snails for future upgrades. In general, Splatfests don't have a massive impact on the game, but that's not always the case. Some Splatfests have helped to determine the plot of the next game, like choosing the favorite idol at the end of the first Splatoon, or choosing Chaos or Order to prevail in Splatoon 2 impacting the development of Splatsville and Splatoon 3. While every Pokemon starter will always have its advantages and disadvantages, the residents of Splatville have spoken, bringing Big Man's first win home.

Splatoon 3 is available now for Nintendo Switch.
