New to Splatoon 3, players can take a break from traditional online Turf War battles and check out the collectible card game in Splatsville called Tableturf Battle. Instead of two teams of four going at each other's throats, Tableturf Battles are one-on-one turn-based card battles with players trying to get as much ink covered on the board before the 12 turns run out.

Because the game doesn't really show players the Tableturf Battle location, this guide will show Splatoon 3 players where to play Tableturf Battles and how to get more cards.

Where to Play Tableturf Battle

Before players can participate in Tableturf Battles, they will need to rank up to level 4 by playing a couple of multiplayer matches in the lobby. After that, the Tableturf Dojo will finally open up, and here's where players can find it in the main hub.

  • Starting from the main plaza, players should head up the stairs towards the lobby.
  • But instead of going inside the lobby, players should take a hard right after the staircase to find an alleyway to the right of a building with a large orange sign.

  • Continue straight down the alley, and players will find a Staff member. Speak to them to get a starter deck for Tableturf Battles --players will also get to hear the rules for the competitive puzzle/card game.

The rules of Splatoon 3's Tableturf Battles are pretty simple. With each turn, players can choose one of their cards to put down on the board. Players will earn points based on the amount of paint that the card has. However, players can only ink a spot next to an area they already have control over. And once a spot is claimed, there's no taking it back from the other player.

Here are some other things to keep in mind to win battles:

  • If both players try to ink the same spot in the same turn, the card with the lower number wins.
  • Those orange-colored spots are called Special Spaces, and if it gets surrounded by ink, the player that owns the Special Space will be rewarded with a Special Point.
  • Special Points can then be used to dish out Special Attacks, which can be used to ink over an opponent's space.

How to Get More Cards for Tableturf Battles

There are a couple of ways to gather more card packs for Tableturf Battles, ranking up Tableturf Rank as one of them. Of course, the easiest way to do that is to keep beating opponents in Tableturf Battles at the Splatsville Dojo.

At the time of writing, there is no way to play Tableturf Battles against friends online, but that could end up changing in the future with a patch from Nintendo.

Tableturf cards can also be earned using the gacha gumball machine in the lobby, playing through the single-player mode, and as a reward via Hotlantis' item Catalog.

Splatoon 3 is available for the Nintendo Switch.
