One of the long traditions of Splatoon is that players can draw and share their drawings publicly. Splatoon 3 has continued this tradition. When walking around in Splatoon 3, other player characters can be approached and their drawing will appear above them. Additionally, drawings can appear as graffiti around town.

Drawing is a fun way to share memes, fan art, and some people even just use it to write something. Any player can post a drawing at any level. Just keep in mind the rules and regulations when drawing, as other players can report on drawings that do not meet Splatoon 3's standards.

How To Make And Post A Drawing

Drawings are posted via a red mailbox, which is down the street from Hotlandis, where players buy locker merchandise. Select the red mailbox and click "post." The game will then open a menu for drawing. The controls to draw are:

  • L and R bumpers adjust the thickness of the brush or eraser.
  • A button is to draw.
  • B button is to erase.
  • ZL bumper will erase the latest brush stroke.
  • ZR will restore the latest erased part.
  • Y button can switch between tall or wide dimensions.
  • L stick positions where to brush.
  • Plus sign is to post the art on Twitter or Facebook.
  • Minus sign is to save progress and quit.

If the red mailbox is selected, there is an option to view and rules and regulations of posts in Splatoon 3. See them by pressing the minus button. They basically lay out what players should never post. These include:

  • Any personal info like address or phone number.
  • Depictions of violence.
  • Copyrighted material.
  • Marketing and commercials.
  • Words or images that may upset other players.
  • Anything that violates public morality.

Additionally, players are warned to not misreport others. If a Splatoon 3 player does truly violate the rules, then they can be reported by interacting with their character and pressing the minus button. However, if a post is loved, players can press the "Fresh!" button. This makes a post become a little more viral across the game.

What Players Often Post About

In Splatoon, a lot of players stick to the game's content for posts. That means a lot of fan art or writing a Splatoon opinion. For example, a lot of players draw their own character. Others post things like "Buff the Tri-Stinger!" or "I love my locker."

Another genre of Splatoon posts is humor and memes. Some even crack jokes about real-world news. Since Queen Elizabeth died the day before Splatoon 3 came out, many players wrote jokes that she would've loved the game or that she died so that everyone could play Splatoon 3. Splatfests change the game a little. During Spatfests, most players post about which team they are on and why.

Splatoon 3 is available for the Nintendo Switch.
