The next seasonal content update for Splatoon 3 has been revealed by Nintendo to be the Chill Season. Arriving on December 1st, the Chill Season brings with it new maps, new weapons, and new modes to Splatoon 3, including the return of fan favorites. The Chill Season launch trailer gives fans some hints at what to expect when the new season starts next month.

When Nintendo announced Splatoon 3, it said to expect seasonal content updates and since the September launch of the game, Nintendo has been keeping to its promise. However, fans were disappointed when the last Splatoon 3 update did not include any Halloween celebrations or the rumored release of a new Big Run. Big Run is a new special event in which Salmonids invade the maps used for Turf War and Anarchy Battles, letting players take part in Salmon Run Next Wave, a co-op multiplayer mode, on the adjusted maps.

Announced in big, bold text towards the end of the reveal trailer, after showcasing more Big Run gameplay, are the words "Big Run is imminent." The official Big Run reveal does not have the same impact as the fan-made Splatoon 3 Big Run emergency broadcast, but the reveal trailer also shows glimpses of new weapons and splatlings. Chill Season is also bringing the ranked mode, X Battle, back from Splatoon 2, except now it will be alongside Anarchy Battles and not just one of the existing ranks.

Among the new modes are also teases of a new pencil sniper rifle, an extra thick roller, a new Luna Blaster, and a new Goofy Ahh Shooter. Eagle-eyed fans have pointed out that the new Luna Blaster is shown with a Fizzy Bomb while the new Splattershot Pro has a Booyah Bomb. While the new weapons are not a complete overhaul of Splatoon 3's Special Weapons, they will bring more variety and player choice to the multiplayer shooter.

In addition to new modes and weapons, Flounder Heights, a map from the original Splatoon, makes it return to the franchise with the new Chill Season. Fan response to the Chill Season reveal has been mostly enthusiastic, with the imminent release of Big Run getting the largest reactions on social media. With the most recent Splatoon 3 Splatfest ending earlier this week, fans are now getting excited over more weapons, more maps, more modes, and more outfits coming when Chill Season launches on December 1st.

Splatoon 3 is out now for the Nintendo Switch.
