Though its beginnings are quite humble, Spiritfarer is poised to become a sleeper hit. After its release on Steam and Switch, Spiritfarer has drawn a crowd for similar reasons to Animal Crossing: New Horizons. There's a lot to love about the game, including its soft, beautiful aesthetic.

As for the story, Spiritfarer sees the player take control of a ferryman for the dead, guiding them to the afterlife via a cozy houseboat. The player must sail across a strange ocean, gathering resources to improve the houseboat and make their passengers' journeys as enjoyable as possible. A big part of that is building new sections for the boat, which require resources. Later in the game, a resource called Lightning in a Bottle becomes increasingly important. Players will need to have quite a bit of Lightning, so here's how to get it.

Step 1: Gather the Component

As mentioned above, there are several different resources to gather and buy in Spiritfarer. Lightning in a Bottle is one that has to be collected, rather than purchased from Spiritfarer's Tom Nook stand-in shopkeeper. To catch the lightning, you'll need the right vessel and need to find the right location. After that, it's all in the timing.

The only component players need for Lightning in a Bottle is, well, a bottle. An Empty Bottle will catch the lightning just fine. This may seem like a stretch, but any fan of the best Zelda games will attest to the raw power an Empty Bottle can have. Bottles don't need to be purchased; they can be found lying around on various islands. Make sure to scoop them up when possible.

Step 2: Catching the Lightning

Once a player has enough bottles, their next step is to find a Thunderstorm. Storms typically manifest as huge bands of darkness on the map, with lightning playing around the edge of the storm clouds. Once inside the storm, sparks will occasionally play along the ground of the houseboat. Stand in the sparks and wait, and before too long, the player will make like Cole MacGrath from Sucker Punch's inFamous and grab the lightning that comes down. The lightning gets stuffed into the bottle, and that's all there is to it.

While standing directly in a lightning strike may seem distinctly dangerous, remember: Spiritfarer is about dealing with death. The characters are already beyond death's reach, so lightning is a lot less scary. In fact, when death isn't an issue, catching lightning in a storm can be quite an invigorating experience. Happy lightning hunting.

Spiritfarer is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, Switch, and Xbox One.
