This year’s annual Spike Video Game Awards airs this Saturday and while many high profile games have been rumored and speculated to make a big splash, we are now able to confirm one of them.

Valve’s eagerly anticipated Portal 2 will in fact, be premiering a new trailer at the VGAs and if that’s not all, we’re also able to exclusively report that a brand new category for “Character of the Year” will also be part of this year's show.

Portal 2 was officially announced back in March and ever since then, everyone's simply been waiting to get their hands on it. A few weeks ago however, news broke that we'd all be waiting a little longer as Valve pushed back Portal 2's release date to next April but they're going to make up for it this weekend with a world premiere Portal 2 trailer at the awards.

The Spike Video Game Awards are known for being an entertaining show made for the fans, where publishers get a chance to tease fans for upcoming titles, and where fans can help pick the winners. The addition of a brand new category which reflects on some of the coolest and most iconic video game characters of the year helps boost excitement, especially since the winning character will be on hand to accept the award.

For the the first time ever on the Spike Video Game Awards, a "Character of the Year" category will be included. The winner of this award will be chosen LIVE on the show and the nominees are as follows:

We are told that the four nominated characters will be notified directly of their nomination and the winner will accept the award on the show. That should be interesting.
