It's easy to admit that Transformers: Dark of the Moon was a failure, but it's hard to forget how great Transformers: War for Cybertron was. Perfectly capturing the transformative battle capabilities of the Transformers, War for Cybertron showed gamers that the robots in disguise can be something more than just movie tie-in fodder. Unfortunately, as a follow-up to War for Cybertron, High Moon Studios delivered just that: a sub par movie tie-in.

But now High Moon Studios gets the chance to return to the Transformers world they first created in their follow-up, Transformers: Fall of Cybertron. Our expectation is that Fall of Cybertron will move the story into territory that any Transformers fan should be familiar with: the Transformers fleeing Cybertron and making a home on Earth. The Spike Video Game Awards brought a new trailer for the game, and, as you'll see, it appears to be a return to form.

Musical choice aside, this trailer is exactly what we'd expect from a High Moon Transformers trailer, it's evocative, heartfelt, and filled with awesome character reveals. It actually reminds me of Gears of War 3's more engaging trailers.

We were already made aware of Grimlock's inclusion in Fall of Cybertron, but that doesn't undermine our excitement at seeing him done right. Add on top of that witnessing Cybertron in the midst of an aggressive battle and we're in.

What do you think of Transformers: Fall of Cybertron? Will High Moon Studios be able to shake off Dark of the Moon, and return to form for Fall of Cybertron?

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron releases August 28, 2012 on the PS3 and Xbox 360.
