Sony producer Amy Pascal gave Tom Holland and Andrew Garfield a piece of advice that they both ignored during the production of their respective Spider-Man films.

Garfield portrayed the web-slinging hero from 2012 until 2014 in The Amazing Spider-Man and its sequel. Holland has portrayed the hero since 2016 when he made his MCU debut as Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War. In 2017, Holland's first solo Spider-Man film arrived in the form of Spider-Man: Homecoming, and he has gone on to star in a number of other Marvel Studios projects since then.

In a recent interview with the New York Times, Pascal and Marvel President Kevin Feige discussed the evolution of Spider-Man over the years and where the web-slinger will go in the future. During the interview, they covered a lot of ground about the past, present, and future of Spider-Man, including the trends that have occurred throughout all adaptations of the hero. This included the common trend of Spider-Man actors dating their on-screen love interests. "I took Tom and Zendaya aside, separately when we first cast them and gave them a lecture," Pascal said. "Don't go there -- just don't. Try not to. I gave the same advice to Andrew and Emma." Pascal elaborated on this by saying that a romantic relationship between two of the film's leads can complicate things. "And they all ignored me," Pascal said.

Holland and Zendaya have been questioned about the nature of their relationship dating back to the press tour of their first Spider-Man film back in 2017. It was not until mid-2021 that Holland and Zendaya were romantically spotted out with one another. The two have since shared heartwarming captions about one another on Instagram, which has captured the hearts of many fans.

Emma Stone and Garfield also became romantically linked during the production of The Amazing Spider-Man. The romantic relationship between the two translated well on camera, making the The Amazing Spider-Man 2 ending even more gut-wrenching for those watching. Garfield and Stone were rumored to have broken up in 2015, a year after the sequel was released. Stone has since married Saturday Night Live segment director Dave McCary and given birth to a daugther.

Zendaya, Holland, Stone, and Garfield are not the only actors who have fallen for one another during the production of a film. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie became romantically involved due to their film Mr. and Mrs. Smith in 2005. Even Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst dated for a brief time during the production of Spider-Man in the early 2000s. While Pascal's advice may have been ignored by the two Spider-Man actors, none of them have let their romantic endeavors impact their work.
