What is the one element missing from the console Spider-Man games? Did you say fear? Well then you are correct! Activision hopes to rectify this mistake with an introduction to one of the many villains plaguing New York in Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions.
In this new video, you can get a first glimpse at the Vulture, who reminds me of one of the homeless horrors in Condemned: Criminal Origins. Also, the video takes place in the Noir universe, so this may only be one iteration of this rival. The multiple universes should make each encounter fresh and entertaining…and apparently creepy, at least on occasion. The one thing Spider-Man games have lacked over the past two console generations (other than fear) is variety. I’ve been running around the same expanding or shrinking version of New York City, saving kids’ balloons for 3 or 4 games now, and it’s time that changed.
The Noir universe is by far the universe I am most interested in traversing as Spider-Man. If Activision is able to get the aesthetic right and the story molds appropriately to the new environment, I have no doubt this will be the most difficult universe to leave behind. And the first-person shot of the Vulture pouncing Peter Parker would be an amazing way to play out a fight scene in the game.
Earlier this week, you saw a behind-the-scenes look at Stan Lee narrating Shattered Dimensions, and a few months ago we got an idea of what the gameplay would look like. Ever since Spider-Man 2 for the GameCube I have been waiting for another great Spider-Man game, and now that all the pieces seem to be in place, I am going to start getting excited for Shattered Dimensions.
Check out the video below and let the terror of Adrian Toomes wash over you:
“We have a CREEPY new vignette for you today, featuring Vulture in the Noir dimension in Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions.”
Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions swings to retail on September 7, 2010 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, PC and DS.
