A Spider-Man Noir live-action series is being developed at Amazon as part of Sony's plan to produce Marvel projects for the streamer and MGM Plus. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are on board the Spider-Man Noir series as executive producers.

Spider-Man Noir was introduced in 2009 as part of the Marvel Noir Universe, which reimagined several Marvel Comics characters in a universe that combined film noir and pulp fiction elements. In this continuity, Peter Benjamin Parker lives in New York City during the Great Depression and acquires his powers after being bitten by a spider hidden inside a stolen artifact.

Variety reports Amazon's untitled Spider-Man Noir series will exist in its own universe and takes a slightly different approach to the character by focusing on an older superhero in 1930s New York City who is not Peter Parker. The Cloverfield Paradox writer Oren Uziel will serve as writer and executive producer on the Spider-Man Noir series, having developed the project with Lord, Miller, and former Sony boss Amy Pascal. Sony Pictures Television is producing the project, with Uziel and Pascal also on board as executive producers, the latter doing so through Pascal Pictures.

The Spider-Man Noir series is the second Marvel project for Amazon and MGM Plus to be announced. A Silk Spider-Man spinoff series was announced In November 2022, with The Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang on board as showrunner and executive producer. Currently titled Silk: Spider Society, the series follows Cindy Moon, a Korean-American woman who develops power after she is bitten by the same spider that bit Peter Parker. Viewers will follow Moon's journey to becoming Silk after she escapes imprisonment and searches for her missing family.

Multiple Marvel shows with characters under Sony's control are being developed for Amazon. However, which of the 900-plus Spider-Man characters will receive projects remains to be seen.

By setting Spider-Man Noir in its own universe, Sony and Amazon can follow the Marvel Noir model and deliver a superhero project that sets itself apart from others. Superhero fatigue is seemingly growing, even among the most ardent defenders of the genre, so a Spider-Man show set in a film noir universe might be one of the cures for any disenchanted fans.

The Spider-Man Noir series is in development at Amazon.
