Following what seemed to be the end of Tom Holland's Peter Parker origin trilogy with Spider-Man: No Way Home, a Spider-Man 4 is rumored to already be in early development. While very little is known about the project, J.K. Simmons may have teased his return as J. Jonah Jameson for a fourth film.

Simmons reprised the role as the comic book character for the fifth time in Spider-Man: No Way Home (a film that focused on the multiverse and saw the return of familiar faces from past Spider-Man films), after starring in all three of Sam Raimi's Spider-Man films and in Spider-Man: Far From Home. Whether Simmons up for returning for a sixth time is still the big question, but his recent comments may hint that it's very possible

Speaking with Deadline, when asked if he will appear in another Spider-Man adventure, Simmons had a very promising response. "It's so interesting, the way he (J. Jonah Jameson) pops in [to Spider-Man: No Way Home]. Yout gotta have him, I don't know why you weren't in the other two, you should've been!" host Pete Hammond asked. Simmons then responded with, "Hey, I think I'm gonna be in more, so... Fingers crossed."

If Simmons decides to tap into the role yet again, there's no doubt Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige and the rest of the team would gladly welcome him back. However, it would be interesting to see which type of role he'd play. His last appearances as J. Jonah Jameson were brief, as the version of the character depicted in the MCU runs a digital version of the Daily Bugle.

Now on his own for the first time and entering a more adult phase in his life (moving into his own apartment, not relying on Tony Stark or other heroes for help), Holland's Peter Parker is now where Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's Spider-Men started. So if the MCU continues following the classic Spider-Man story, Holland's Spidey may be at the point in his story where he ends up working for Jameson.

It's still unclear how big of a role Simmons' character would have, but with speculation continuing to grow every day, expect more details regarding a fourth Spider-Man film to surface online in the coming months. Until more news breaks, fans can catch Simmons as the reporter in No Way Home. Other than the surprising character returns, the film went on to break numerous box-office records while also becoming a critical success. The film stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, Zendaya as MJ, Alfred Molina as Doc Ock, Willem Dafoe as Green Goblin, Jamie Foxx as Electro, Jacob Batalon as Ned, and Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is currently playing in theaters.
