It's been three years since the world was rocked by the wonder of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and the tale of Miles Morales. The film went on to win an Oscar for Best Animated Feature and quickly, a sequel was confirmed. Now, fans have their first look at the upcoming continuation.

The Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse trailer doesn't show many glimpses at all into the plot or which characters will feature in the film, leaving much up to speculation and wonder. What it does show is the main character Miles Morales, being reunited with his sort-of love interest Spider-Gwen. It's much more a snapshot into the style of the film and the stellar animation than a preview of the actual story.

What's seen in this "first look" looks extremely colorful, with fluid movements and incredibly interesting textures. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse appears to be maintaining the comic-book-like appearance people adored from the first film and seems to be one that'll have to be seen on the big screen to get the full effect. The first Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse film was highly successful on its release, breaking a few box office records in the United States and Canada. It was also the first non-Disney/Pixar film to win the Oscar in its category since 2011's Rango. Several critics placed it on top of their lists for best films of the year, as the animation was stunning and the story was extremely well-written. Fans ate it up too, which means this sequel has a lot of pressure to live up to expectations.

Nothing hard has been confirmed about the plot or which Spider-Man villains fans can expect to see, but based on this first look it's possible that this could be one for the Miles/Gwen shippers. The trailer focuses heavily on the pair reuniting and interacting. Miles is also very nervous and giddy to see her again, and there was an establishment that he has a crush on her in the first film. Of course, there's going to be some great action as well as some other Spider-Men and hopefully some iconic villains.

The second part of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) is set to be released in 2023. Those who can't wait for a Spider-Man fix until then can, of course, catch the MCU's version of the character in Spider-Man: No Way Home on December 17, 2021.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) will be released on October 7, 2022.
