With the record-breaking theatrical debut of Spider-Man: No Way Home back in December, many have been wondering what's next for the web-slinger and if Tom Holland will return to do another Spider-Man trilogy. Now, it appears Holland's future as Peter Parker is still up in the air.

Marvel Studios and Sony have been remaining very tight-lipped about what’s next for the hero and if there will even be a “next” for Holland's friendly neighborhood Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While Marvel Studios and Sony seem intent on bringing Holland back for more Spider-Man films, it seems plans are far from set in stone.

A new report from The Ankler has managed to shine some more light on what's going on behind the scenes in regard to bringing the fan-favorite hero back to the big screen. The report claims there are more Spider-Man projects in the works, however, it seems that Holland has yet to sign at this time. The report states, “While plans are in motion for another Spidey trilogy starring Tom Holland, I don’t believe he has actually signed a deal yet, so those plans remain unofficial for now.” The report goes on to say that fans of Holland's Spidey should refrain from worrying about whether the actor will return to reprise his role considering it is in Sony’s best interest for the actor to return following the success of his last Spider-Man adventure, which brought in in over $1.9 billion at the box office, and Uncharted, which was a major success for the studio as well.

Spider-Man No Way Home Tom Holland Tobey Maguire Andrew Garfield

Prior to the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home, producer Amy Pascal revealed that Marvel Studios and Sony would team up again to produce another Spidey film, with Holland as the star. Holland responded to the claims on multiple occasions, saying he and the studio “have some very, very exciting things to be talking about” and he mentioned “conversations” had been happening. However, he refrained from giving any concrete confirmation about his involvement in anything.

The ending of Spider-Man: No Way Home left Peter Parker alone as he entered a whole new chapter of his journey as a hero, which definitely leaves things open for the writers to craft a whole new story and set of adventures for the hero to set out on. Sony has also been working on some other films with characters who are prominent within the Spidey universe, such as Madame Web and Kraven the Hunter.

That being said, as the Spider-Man universe continues to expand it's fair to say that Sony definitely has plans of keeping Holland in the loop and within the universe to bring more comic book stories to life on the big screen.

Spider-Man 4 is reportedly in development.
