Superhero fans have been combing through Insomniac's new Spider-Man game looking for easter eggs and other hidden nods, but it appears that the game contains more than just playful secrets. In fact, fans on Reddit have now found a heart-warming tribute to the World Trade Center, which was the target of an infamous terrorist attack on September 11th, 2001.

The tribute is fairly subtle, so much so that it would be pretty easy to miss while traversing through the city. The two towers are seen in the reflection of a building's windows, though when turning around to face the city only the skyline is visible.

It's probably no accident that the tribute was posted on the 17th anniversary of the attack that claimed the lives of 2,996 people and injured more than 6,000 others. In the United States, it's considered to be a day of remembrance for victims of the attack as wells as the first responders who bravely risked their lives to save others.

It's good that Insomniac put such a tribute in their game. Spider-Man has sold very well thus far, so the tribute is likely to be discovered by many players. Spider-Man's character is an icon for New York, so it's also fitting that the tribute made its way into this game, specifically.

The tribute is a nice break from some of the other negative stories circulating in the news lately. Even the games industry has had its fair share of dark stories over the past couple of weeks, including today when internet icon Dr. Disrespect's home was shot. Hopefully, this will be just the first of a new trend of more positive stories.

Spider-Man is a great game, and it's equally great that Insomniac put in the time and the effort that put a tribute like this in the game. It may not mean anything to a lot of people, but it'll mean everything to a few.

Spider-Man is available now on the PS4.
