A fan of Marvel's Spider-Man has posted an image of a small Easter egg that they found in the game. The Easter egg makes fun of the web-swinging mechanics from previous games, a feature that was particularly praised in Marvel's Spider-Man.

Marvel's Spider-Man was initially released in 2018 and was a massive success for Insomniac Games. Despite the character's enduring popularity, Spider-Man video games have not always been well-received by critics. The combat came in for particular praise with clear inspiration from Rocksteady Studios' Batman: Arkham series, and fans enjoyed the story which made great use of Spider-Man's rogues gallery. However, the game wasn't perfect, and years after its release fans continue to debate improvements they'd like to see in Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

The Easter egg posted by Reddit user JuK3b0x_HEr0 pokes fun at the web-swinging mechanics seen in many previous Spider-Man games, showing the hero firing their web into the clouds above. In many of the older Spider-Man titles, players would be able to attach their webs to thin air, often defying the laws of physics if there was no building to swing from. It never made much sense and became a meme within the community. The Easter egg is easily missed, only adding to the attention to detail in the game world. Marvel's Spider-Man features many Easter eggs like this, with one even hinting towards an appearance of Daredevil in future Spider-Man games.

The web-swinging of Marvel's Spider-Man was one of the most praised features in the game, with the simple controls, excellent animations, and the strong feeling of momentum combining to create the most thrilling version of the feature to date. Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales continued to innovate on the feature, adding a host of extra animations to make every swing feel more unique. History has shown that it's a hard feature to get right. Even attempts released after Marvel's Spider-Man have struggled, with fans online mocking Marvel's Avengers' attempt at web-swinging. Insomniac Games has yet to discuss how it plans to improve on the web-swinging for the sequel. Fans may just need to exercise patience and wait for the eventual release of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 to see how the feature is handled.

As this Easter egg shows, there is still plenty to discover in Insomniac's recreation of New York City. Both the original and its spin-off, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales have kept players interested while they wait for news on the sequel which is expected to release in 2023. While fans are unsure about exactly what they can expect from Insomniac's follow-up, the actors of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 have been hyping up the appearance of Venom in the upcoming title.

Marvel's Spider-Man is available now on PS4.
