While news that the PlayStation 4 Spider-Man game will be receiving a next-gen remaster on the PlayStation 5 at the console's launch had plenty of fans excited, just as many were disappointed to learn that it can only be acquired by purchasing the expensive Ultimate Edition of Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

What's more, Insomniac was quick to confirm that it currently has no intentions of distributing Spider-Man as a separate purchase. As disappointing as this news is, those who do intend on grabbing the aforementioned Ultimate Edition or have already pre-ordered it will be pleased to learn of all the enhancements the remaster is receiving.

According to Insomniac itself, many art assets have been upgraded so as to take full advantage of the PS5's more powerful hardware. Character models will feature better facial animations, skin, eyes, and hair and, thanks to ray tracing, there will be improved lighting, reflections, and ambient shadows. The developer also adds that more pedestrians and vehicles can be seen stretching into the distance, which could go the extra mile in making the setting of New York City feel more alive.

And just like Miles Morales, players will be able to select an optional Performance mode that aims for a framerate of 60fps. Other additions include near instant loading times, 3D audio, and haptic feedback on the DualSense controller.

Insomniac also confirmed that the Spider-Man remaster will come with a few pieces of extra content as well, namely three more suits to dress Spidey in, new photo features, and new trophies, no doubt to further encourage those who already played the original to check the remaster out.

Whether this will actually work, though, is another story. Despite the excitement surrounding the new game and how beloved the original game is, many have found the details surrounding the remaster's release to be frustrating. Aside from the ones mentioned earlier, it has been clarified that players can't carry their original saves over to the remaster and it's not eligible for a free upgrade. So, anyone who bought the PS4 game will have to pay for the remaster.

It's strange to know that this isn't even the only Sony/Spider-Man related controversy to take place this year. Only a month ago, Spidey was confirmed to be a post-launch playable character for Square Enix's now available Avengers game, but only for the PS4 and PS5 versions, which very quickly drew ire from many fans. The news didn't appear to hurt sales, though, as it still went on to sell decently.

Spider-Man will release for PS5 as part of the Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition on November 12th.
