The PS4 exclusive Spider-Man game from Insomniac Games has impressed since it was announced at Sony's E3 2016 press conference. Many have compared it to the Batman: Arkham games from Rocksteady, and similar to those games, Spider-Man on PS4 is expected to make a deep dive into Spider-Man's impressive rogues gallery when it releases on September 7.

Besides Shocker and Kingpin, Insomniac has only confirmed lesser-known villains for the Spider-Man game on PS4, like Mister Negative and The Taskmaster. However, that doesn't mean fans shouldn't expect to see Spider-Man's more familiar enemies appear in the game.

We know that Insomniac plans to feature classic villains in the game, but the studio has so far been quiet about most of the enemies Spider-Man will be facing off against. With that in mind, here are five villains we hope to see in the PS4 exclusive Spider-Man game from Insomniac.

5 Green Goblin

We already know that Norman Osborn will play a role in Spider-Man's story, but what we don't know is if the New York City mayoral prospect will end up donning the Green Goblin mantle or not. As Spider-Man's archnemesis, the Green Goblin has been featured in some of the Webhead's most significant comic book moments, with the most notable being the shocking death of Gwen Stacy. If Norman Osborn doesn't become Green Goblin during the events of the game, though, it's possible another character may represent the villain, like Norman's son Harry.

4 Kraven the Hunter

Sergei Kravinoff, best known as Kraven the Hunter, is one of Spider-Man's most dangerous villains. Possessing incredible strength thanks to a special serum, Kraven's raw power and tactical prowess has seen him actually defeat Spider-Man and bury him alive. Kraven then briefly served as "Spider-Man" himself, before the real deal returned and reclaimed his spot. Kraven has been seen in Spider-Man video games before, but Insomniac's Spider-Man game could truly do justice to the complex and powerful villain.

3 Mysterio

The original Mysterio, Quentin Beck, doesn't have any superpowers but is able to wreak havoc with his elaborate illusions and gadgets. Mysterio has been named one of the best comic book villains of all time by a variety of publications and has appeared in many video games, but Spider-Man on PS4 could give the baddie the more prominent role he deserves. And with reports that Jake Gyllenhaal is in talks to play Mysterio in his proper big screen debut, now seems like the perfect time to bring the villain to the spotlight with Insomniac's game.

2 Venom

One of Spider-Man's most recognizable villains is Venom, and for good reason. Venom is the result of an alien Symbiote fusing itself with disgraced journalist Eddie Brock. Since Spider-Man himself was once a host for the Symbiote, the creature is able to retain knowledge of his abilities and pass those powers on to whoever it bonds with. While Venom may be best known as one of Spider-Man's villains, the character has also been portrayed as an anti-hero, and his history battling Carnage could be a way to bring that psychotic villain into the mix as well.

Something else to note is that Mister Negative, one of the few villains confirmed for the Spider-Man game, has played a significant role in Eddie Brock's life. It was Mister Negative who cured Eddie Brock of his cancer and led to him becoming Anti-Venom. Considering this, perhaps Anti-Venom will appear in the Spider-Man game instead.

1 Vulture

As one of the original members of the Sinister Six, a group dedicated to killing Spider-Man, Vulture has played a key role in the comics for decades, making his first appearance in The Amazing Spider-Man #2 in 1963 as the web crawler's second-ever villain. Thanks to the character's appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Spider-Man: Homecoming, the masses are more aware of the Vulture than ever before, and Insomniac could potentially capitalize on his newfound popularity with an appearance in the game.

Spider-Man details on Peter

Besides the villains listed here, it would be great to see other iconic Spider-Man foes featured in the upcoming Spider-Man game on PS4. Other villains that come to mind include Dr. Octopus, Lizard, Morbius, Rhino, and Sandman, but really the potential is near-limitless when it comes to the villains that can be featured in Spider-Man.

Of course, it's possible all of those villains and more will be featured in Insomniac's Spider-Man game, but fans will just have to wait and see. Luckily, more information on the villains Spider-Man will face off against in the PS4 game should come sooner rather than later, as the game is expected to be featured prominently during Sony's E3 2018 press conference on Monday, June 11 at 6:00pm PDT.

Spider-Man will launch on September 7, exclusively for PlayStation 4.
