The Insomniac Games-developed Spider-Man PS4 exclusive is certainly shaping up to be one of the go-to games for 2018, and so far fans have been extremely optimistic about the game and its physics and momentum-based webslinging. Moreover, the title is also promising a showdown with one of the lesser-appreciated villains of the series in the form of Mister Negative, and it looks as though this nefarious character is going to appear in some very exciting set pieces, including a showdown in a subway.

This subway battle in Spider-Man has been teased as part of the Marvel panel at San Diego Comic-Con, with a stunning piece of speculative artwork showing Spidey in battle with Mister Negative on a moving train. The duo are busy slugging it out as commuters recoil in shock.

Although this certainly gives a great look at potential material for the upcoming game, it turns out that this is more than simply a concept. Apparently, this subway battle between the pair will actually form part of the final game, so those stepping into the shoes of Spider-Man might want to take a closer look at the image for any hints at exactly how this fight will take place.

When Mister Negative was initially announced as an antagonist of Insomniac's Spider-Man, long-term fans of the comics were intrigued to see exactly how the developer would treat the villain. Those with less of an ardent interest in the webslinger, though, were left a little confused, asking questions about exactly who Mister Negative is. However, it may well be a refreshing change to see a 'new' face in the video game adaptation of a well-known property such as this.

Indeed, it's likely that choosing Mister Negative may have allowed Insomniac to add mechanics to the game that may have not been possible had a different set of enemies been chosen. As it turns out, players will have to use dynamic strategies in Spider-Man to take down the variety of villains on show, so at the very least this version of Spider-Man will have to remain very much alert at all times.

It won't just be Mister Negative itching for a fight, however, as fan favorites such as Wilson Fisk (AKA The Kingpin) will also be making an appearance in Spider-Man. All in all, the game seems to be progressing well, so here's hoping that a more specific launch window is announced soon.

Spider-Man will be released in 2018, exclusively for the PS4.
