Considering it is one of the most exciting PS4 exclusives of the year, fans of Spider-Man may very well be excited that it launches this coming September. Alongside the reveal date announcement, many other details also emerged about the web slinger’s upcoming game, including some concerning the hero’s longstanding love interest, Mary Jane Watson.

For those unaware, Mary Jane has served as Peter Parker’s love interest and even his wife in various comic book runs and movies. However, it is unknown exactly what iteration of Mary Jane will be played in Spider-Man, other than she is a reporter with The Daily Bugle. It is also worth noting that in the “Renew Your Vows” comic series, Mary Jane and her daughter have powers similar to Peter Parker, with Mary Jane fighting crime as the Spinneret.

It is worth mentioning because, while it was previously known that Mary Jane would be playable, it is unknown how exactly she will be played. Of course, it is merely speculation that Mary Jane could have powers in the game, but it is derived from a new statement by Spider-Man creative director Brian Intihar. In fact, what he said is that Mary Jane will “surprise a lot of people – a lot of people.”

Now, it is entirely possible that Mary Jane will not have powers in the game, but what would be more surprising? She could easily be a playable character for non-Spidey segments of the game, and the surprise could also very well be something else. But, it would be an interesting twist to see Mary Jane dawn the Spinneret suit in order to save Spider-Man.

While it remains to be seen if Mary Jane gets to swing through New York as Spinneret, confirmation of the “surprise” isn’t far off. Tell us, Ranters, what do you think the surprise could be?
