Fall is rapidly approaching, which means gamers will soon have more titles than they could ever hope to play. However, this Summer still has a few major titles up its sleeve, and one of the biggest, Spider-Manhas finally gone gold.

Insomniac Games, the title's developer, announced the news of the game's completion today on their official Twitter feed. For those unfamiliar with the term, "going gold" essentially means that the game is finished and can now be sent off to manufacturers to be printed onto discs.

This doesn't mean that Insomniac's work is finished, though. The team will now shift its focus to creating a day one patch, using the time they have left to squash bugs and make even more performance improvements. Some members of the team will likely move on to other projects or begin working on post-launch content, which will be included in the collector's edition, for the web-slinging spectacular.

Spider-Man is one of the most anticipated titles of the year, and will likely be a massive success for Insomniac and Sony. Gamers everywhere have been waiting to get their hands on the game since its reveal at E3 2016, anxiously absorbing every scrap of information that has been released since the reveal. Luckily, Insomniac has been pretty generous with content, revealing new suits and gameplay on a fairly regular basis.

Finishing the game is a massive achievement for Insomniac, who can do nothing now but wait for fan-feedback and hope for a positive critical response. Shipping any game is an insane feat, especially when dealing with one of the largest comic book properties ever created.

Spider-Man isn't the only massive, first-party game that Sony has published this year. God Of War made a splash when it released earlier this year in April, and comparisons will almost certainly be drawn between the two. If Spider-Man is able to generate even half as much success as God Of War, which is considered by many to be a strong contender for Game of The Year, then Insomniac should be pleased.

Game Rant went hands-on with Spider-Man at this year's E3 conference and enjoyed the experience quite a bit.

Spider-Man will release on September 7th, 2018, for the PS4.
