For those looking forward to Marvel's Spider-Man, the hours leading up to its September 7 release are crawling by ever more slowly. And while many would surely hop in a time machine to skip forward to next Friday, players will want to savor every glorious moment once they're swinging around New York City as Spider-Man. Thankfully, Insomniac confirmed that a photo mode will be available as part of the game's day one update, and as expected, it will not disappoint.

Generally, a game's photo mode doesn't need its own trailer, but as is the case with Marvel's Spider-Man, there are exceptions. Rather than simply snapping a button and saving a raw screenshot, Spider-Man's photo mode makes capturing cinematic moments an activity all its own, right next to exploring, fighting, and completing quests.

Spider-Man's photo mode will provide a host of screenshot editing features, including color filters, vignettes, stickers, and frames. Most photo modes leave it at that, but Marvel's Spider-Man raises the bar considerably.

Players will also be able to take selfies as Spider-Man with unique lighting options and emotes fit for Peter Parker in the age of Snapchat. Custom comic book covers can be made using screenshots captured in the game, complete with comic book sound effects like "crak!" and "swoosh!"

Marvel's Spider-Man cinematic

Despite recent controversy surrounding the conspicuous downsizing of a rain puddle, the in-engine footage seen in Photo Mode's announcement trailer looks more than photo-worthy - its sprawling recreation of modern day Manhattan cast in twilight hues taking center stage. Further, the soundtrack alone warrants a video mode for those moments when the action and score sync up so perfectly.

Creative types will find plenty of content in Marvel's Spider-Man to explore, protect, and preserve for future reminiscing. Beyond the base game's roughly 20-hour story (minus side quests), Spider-Man will get its first DLC pack, The City That Never Sleeps, on October 23. The DLC pack will include three distinct chapters releasing one after the next, and will expand the story and introduce new gameplay elements.
