Marvel’s Spider-Man has been out for years now, though that has not stopped fans from creating new art pieces. While this usually results in Marvel’s Spider-Man players designing their own suit concepts, one player has made a new version of Peter Parker himself.
Peter Parker’s character model has become a heated topic in the last several months, as many were caught off guard by the updated design in Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered. Peter Parker’s face was entirely different in this updated version, with many preferring the older design. This resulted in everything from old Peter Parker appreciation posts to death threats being sent in the direction of Insomniac developers. Fortunately, Redditor Swagspider has shown love to both character models, avoiding any controversy in the process.
Swagspider’s Marvel’s Spider-Man design is based on an official piece of concept art for Peter Parker. While Peter Parker wears a similar outfit in the art to the one seen in the game, as he rocks a plaid shirt and jeans, fans should instantly notice the big difference. In this concept art, Peter’s hair is significantly longer and messier, with the cleaner look of the final game being nowhere to be seen. He also has some stubble on his face, something that Swagspider made into a full beard with their own character model.
Considering that a bearded Peter Parker has not been shown in any of the Spider-Man movies, and is an extremely rare sight in the comics, seeing it in the game takes some getting used to. However, Swagspider provides several different scenes to show off the edit, allowing fans to get a good look at this new Peter displaying his emotions. Overall, the look is reminiscent of Marvel’s Avengers’ Tony Stark, something that was pointed out by a few commenters.
While the first batch of photos looks at the old model, the second edits the PS5 version. Overall, most commenters are shocked by just how good the newer Peter looks with the long hair and beard. According to Swagspider, this could be because Spidey’s new face model has long hair in real life, with the look simply suiting him better.
Everything from Peter's dinner date with MJ to his final fight with Doc Ock is shown, once again giving fans the chance to see the design from several angles. All of them look great, though, with some Redditors even hoping that Peter gets the longer hair and beard in the next game.
While it seems unlikely that Insomniac will return to this concept in the next Marvel’s Spider-Man game, it is still cool to see what it could have looked like. Further, with so much praise for Swagspider’s version of Peter Parker, it is safe to say that they did a great job with this mock-up.
