Fans have been eagerly waiting for Sony Pictures to release the trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home. A social media trend last week demanded that the trailer be released soon and Sony is clearly enjoying all the attention. But, a few keen-eyed Marvel fans are convinced that the trailer is dropping soon, and their theories are not too far-fetched either.

An entire thread on Reddit has been tracking the various social media accounts in international markets for Sony Pictures, and fans have pointed out how many of them are changing their cover images to the Spider-Man: No Way Home logo. Fans believe this is Sony’s way of slowly and quietly moving towards a trailer release, especially as the entertainment company has been trolling fans regarding the trailer for the past few weeks.

Spider-Man is one of the most loved Marvel heroes, and its fans are often trolled by the production companies, which is part of their marketing strategy. Just a few days ago, the company posted an edited image of a trailer truck with the Spider-Man: No Way Home logo printed on it, which obviously did not sit well with fans. When fans started demanding a trailer release, the Sony Pictures UK Twitter account shared a GIF of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man with the caption, “Us seeing Spider-Man trending…”. On Sunday, another GIF was posted reminding fans to switch off Monday morning’s alarm as it’s a public holiday.

A similar stunt was pulled off when the official title of the film was announced. The stars of the upcoming film posted three different names on their social media accounts, leaving fans absolutely confused. The next day, Marvel officially announced that the third installment in the franchise would be titled Spider-Man: No Way Home. Keeping that stunt in mind, fans are convinced that all the recent trolling from Sony Pictures must be hinting towards an upcoming trailer release.

Another important factor that is being brought up by fans on social media is the fact that Marvel surprised actor Simu Liu on his birthday earlier this year by releasing the trailer of his upcoming film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. On April 19, Liu shared the poster of the upcoming Marvel film that introduces the first Asian superhero into the MCU, but what he didn’t know was that Marvel had a bigger surprise in store for him and the fans. The trailer was soon shared online, and immediately went viral on social media.

Holland, who will be reprising his role as Spider-Man in the upcoming film, celebrates his 25th birthday on June 1, Tuesday. Fans believe that another birthday surprise is coming up and while it could obviously be just a coincidence, fans are convinced that all the trolling is leading up to a June 1 trailer release, especially as the film has already wrapped filming. Why else would a media conglomerate tease fans over one film, right? However, fans do need to remember that Spider-Man: No Way Home is not entirely a Marvel film, as Sony still owns the film rights to Spider-ManTime will tell if fan theories are true or not, but the hype for the trailer, and the film, is clearly very high.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is scheduled to release in theaters on December 17, 2021.
