As if the MCU couldn't top the epicness of Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts is calling his upcoming film 'Spider-Man: Endgame.'

After being reduced to dust and then coming back to help fight Thanos and his army, it looks like things couldn't get any crazier for Tom Holland's Spider-Man. Well, Watts thinks otherwise, comparing the scale of Spider-Man: No Way Home to that of the previous Avengers film.

Speaking with Empire in the upcoming new issue, Watts claimed that the film will be HUGE, telling them, "We’re definitely trying to be ambitious." When asked how ambitious, Watts responded, "It’s ‘Spider-Man: Endgame." Spider-Man: No Way Home, which will feature the multiverse and see the return of many beloved characters from previous Spider-Man adaptations like Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, is set to conclude Holland's Homecoming trilogy, that is according to Holland himself. The web-slinging star recently opened up about how No Way Home feels like a definite conclusion to what has already been a critically acclaimed trilogy. With phase 4, as mentioned, heading in more cosmic, multiversal directions, who knows what the MCU will consist of after a few more films.

"When I was first pitched the idea, I was like, ‘Wow, that would be awesome if we could pull it off’,” Holland recalled, regarding the prospect of bringing in famous former foes. “'But there’s just no way it’s going to work. You’re just not going to be able to get everyone to do what they need to do. It’s just not going to happen.’ But it did happen. And it’s crazy.” Characters like Alfred Molina's Doc Ock and Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin returning to the big screen have had fans anxiously awaiting, while other rumors of Andrew Garfield's and Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man comebacks have been brewing for quite some time.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige also contributed his thoughts about the possibilities that stemmed from the multiverse's introduction in the MCU. "I remember having discussions with Amy Pascal years ago. 'Do we want to revisit villains we've seen before?' No, let's do Vulture, and Mysterio, and characters we haven't brought to the screen before. But I remember thinking, 'How would you even do Doc Ock again?', because Alfred Molina is perfect casting. If you ever brought him back, it would have to be him somehow." Spider-Man: No Way Home picks up where Far From Home left off when the world now finally knows who Spider-Man is. Seeking Doctor Strange's help in restoring his secret identity through the use of magic, Peter Parker must then deal with multiversal consequences.

Excitement levels in recent days have continued to elevate, with more rumors circulating that a bigger and more mind-blowing trailer 2 for Spider-Man: No Way Home will release in the coming days before Marvel Studios' Eternals. Whether that is true or not, it appears that Spider-Man: No Way Home's first trailer was enough to keep the hype going, as its big theatrical release is right around the corner. The film also stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, Zendaya as MJ, Jacob Batalon as Ned, Marisa Tomei as Aunt May, Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan, Jamie Foxx as Electro, J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson, Benedict Wong as Wong, and Tony Revolori as Flash Thompson.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is set to release on December 17th, 2021.
