The third Spider-Man solo adventure, Spider-Man: No Way Home, is set to premiere in December and is already one of the most anticipated upcoming MCU movies. Tom Holland's Spider-Man will face a difficult challenge. All the world knows his secret identity, and in his effort to fix it, Peter will accidentally cause a rift between multiple realities and bring iconic Spider-Man enemies from the previous movies to his own world.

At least, that's what the audience has gleaned from the trailers. The latest trailer raised the hype even higher, and many fans can't wait to watch the movie. However, there are some small details in the trailer that only comic book readers will truly understand or even stop to consider.

7 The Sinister Six Will Make An Appearance... Maybe

Sinister Six Comics

The Sinister Six belongs among the most dangerous Spider-Man villains in the comics. They even succeeded in killing the young Peter Parker in The Ultimate Spider-Man series. All comic book readers familiar with the villainous team will notice that its members appear in the trailer.

However, there are only five of them shown in the trailer, not six. Either the movie won't include all of the Sinister Six members, or the last one is omitted from inthe trailer deliberately in order not to spoil the surprise.

6 Two Green-Goblins

As comic book readers will know, there's more than one just Green Goblin in the comics. Both Norman Osborn and his son Harry become the villain at one point. It's a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment, but the trailer shows two men riding a glider. One of the Green Goblins appears to be Willem Dafoe, but the other's identity remains hidden at this point.

The most plausible explanation is that it's Harry Osborn, but the movie could do a one-eighty and go in a different direction. However, considering the emphasis that the MCU puts on family relationships, including a villainous father/son duo in the movie would make sense.

5 An Unusual Alliance

The enemy of my enemy is my friend, the old saying claims, and Spider-Man: No Way Home might just prove that it's true. Initially, Dr. Octopus fights Spider-Man, but later on, it seems like they might be working together. Comic book readers will know that it's not the only time these two worked side by side.

The most obvious example is when they literally become one in the Superior Spider-Man storyline. In this story, Otto Octavius stole Peter Parker's body and posed as Spider-Man. It's unlikely he will do the same in the movie since, simply due to time restraints. But it isn't out of the question that Octavius and Parker could end up working closely together, just like in the comics.

4 A Last-Second Rescue

Gwen Stacy dies

Viewers who haven't seen the Amazing Spider-Man movies with Andrew Garfield might not realize a scene in the trailer very similar to the comic books. When Zendaya's MJ falls off the bridge, it mimics an iconic moment from the comics. When the Green Goblin threw Gwen Stacy off a bridge, Spider-Man tried to save her — but the whiplash from being stopped by his web broke Gwen's neck, and she died.

However, things seem to go differently in the trailer. MJ falling looks similar to this scene with Gwen in the comics, but Spider-Man dives after MJ and seems to rescue her at the last moment. Some fan theories suggest that another Spider-Man, most likely Andrew Garfield himself, could swoop in and save MJ instead of Tom Holland, making up for his failure when he didn't save Gwen. It's an interesting theory but it remains to be seen whether it will be true.

Interestingly enough, Kirsten Dunst's Mary Jane had a similar fall in the original Spider-Man film trilogy, but luckily, Spider-Man managed to save her. If the history repeats itself, Zendaya's MJ should also be fine in the end.

3 Kicking Peter Out Of His Body

Ancient One knocks Doctor Strange out of his body

At one point, Spider-Man and Doctor Strange stand against each other. Doctor Strange then uses his powers to kick Peter out of his body. That's not only what the Ancient One (Tilda Swinton) does to Stephen Strange in Doctor Strange (2016), but a similar scene happens in the comics as well.

Doctor Strange has the same power in the comics, to forcibly remove someone from their body. Not everybody can do this, even other magically gifted characters.

2 Comic-Book Looking Elektro

Elektro fights Spider-Man

In addition to the villains from the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy, Spider-Man: No Way Home will also include antagonists from the mostly shunned Amazing Spider-Man movie series. While the Lizard looks mostly the same as he did in the older movies, Electro's look has undergone a change.

Casual moviegoers may not recognize it, but comic book fans will be happy to hear that the movie version of Electro now looks much more like his comic book counterpart as drawn by the legendary Steve Ditko.

1 The Fateful Spell

Benedict Cumberbatch Doctor Strange Avengers Infinity War

What starts the onslaught of villains coming to Spider-Man's universe, at least according to Doctor Strange, is Peter himself, because he ruined the spell Doctor Strange was doing. However, Peter's request that Doctor Strange cast a spell that would let everyone forget his secret identity is no surprise to the comic book readers. Spider-Man did a similar thing in the comics, albeit his circumstances were different.

In the comics, Spider-Man wasn't outed by Mysterio. Instead, Peter shared his identity with the world willingly during the Civil War. At first, he thought it was a good idea; however, his Aunt May got hurt because of it. Peter and Tony Stark, the former's mentor and friend, parted ways and Peter joined the opposite side, alongside Captain America. While the situation is different in the MCU, the fact that the movie works with the spell is a nice nod to the comics.
