The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X may boast the most advanced technology of any video game console to date, but that’s not stopping weird glitches from making their way into the next generation. Such is the case with one of the biggest next-gen games so far, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, but luckily, the results so far are more hilarious than problematic.

Fans of Insomniac’s 2018 take on Peter Parker have been able to play as his fellow Spider-Man for almost a week now, and in that time, they’ve been coming across a rather unusual glitch. No one knows exactly what causes it to occur, but for whatever reason it replaces the player-character model with random objects, resulting in Miles Morales suddenly turning into things like bricks and street lamps.

What’s funny about this is that, for starters, it seems to apply to basically any object in the game’s world, and it has no apparent effect on gameplay. This means players are free to swing around virtual New York and fight crime as they normally would, but as an entire Spider-Verse of web-slinging inanimate objects. Naturally this has led to all sorts of strange clips being shared online, and Polygon has compiled several of the funniest, which include footage of players walking around as a frozen splash of water and swinging over a train station as an oversized steel barrier.

But perhaps the most spectacular display of the glitch in Spider-Man: Miles Morales so far comes courtesy of Twitch streamer Froste. In just the span of a minute, the glitch can be seen acting in rapid succession as Miles becomes a patch of snow, a white cube, a metal fence, and a set of shirts on a rack while chasing down a car full of criminals, before swinging away as part of a wall.

Although there have been some reports of the glitch causing the game to crash, according to IGN, all in all, fans seem to see it more as an unintended bonus than a hindrance, especially since they can return Miles to normal at any time just by restarting the game. If anything, this wacky technical hiccup has made Miles Morales an even better game than it already is for a lot of fans, with some even joking that they’ve been more interested in the random Spider-Objects they can become than the actual Spider suits Insomniac added for them to collect.

Speaking of Insomniac, the developer has yet to officially acknowledge the glitch, so it remains to be seen if it has any plans of removing it. Safe to say, though, after all of the accidental hilarity it has provided this week, plenty of fans are probably hoping it doesn’t.
