When Sony and Insomniac Games announced Spider-Man: Miles Morales back during the PlayStation 5 reveal event, a lot of fans figured that it would be a full game featuring the mixed-race web-slinger. However, multiple parties involved with Spider-Man: Miles Morales have since made contradicting comments that have left fans confused as to what they should expect.
In response to this, Sony has definitively addressed the situation, stating that Miles Morales will indeed be a standalone title, and that it will focus on telling Miles' Spider-Man origin story. That said, Spider-Man: Miles Morales will be shorter than Spider-Man PS4. The game's creative director, Brian Horton, likened it to that of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy.
Jim Ryan, the head of Sony Interactive Entertainment, then added to these statements with one of his own. In an interview with CNET, he said, "I can safely say that we would not effectively lead the next-gen portion of the show with something that was either trivial or misleading." In other words, the upcoming PS5 launch title will play out as something more than Spider-Man PS4 DLC.
Still, while Sony and Insomniac's statements clear up some questions, they create others of equal importance. The primary one being, "How much does Spider-Man: Miles Morales cost?" If Sony and Insomniac consider the game to be bold enough to be a PlayStation 5 launch title, they might think it's worth the price of a full game.
A lot of fans would love to get their hands on a Miles-centered game, but paying full-price for one as long Uncharted: The Lost Legacy sounds unappealing. As it stands, Sony and Insomniac still have more information than fans do on it, and this leaves the game in a similar place as the PlayStation 5, as fans wonder how much that cost too.
Of course, if Spider-Man: Miles Morales is as short as described, it's unlikely that Sony and Insomniac would price it the same way they would something like Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. But the possibility does exist, and so long as that information isn't present, fans will continue to have questions.
Beyond that, though, Horton says that Spider-Man: Miles Morales will be "an important, heartfelt, emotional, and essential experience to expanding the Marvel's Spider-Man universe." He also said that Insomniac still had plenty of stories to tell about Peter Parker. Essentially Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is confirmed to be happening sometime down the line, and Miles Morales' game serves to prepare him for that adventure.
