One of the most anticipated PlayStation 5 launch titles is Spider-Man: Miles Morales, the first follow-up to 2018's Marvel's Spider-Man for PlayStation 4. Developed by Insomniac Games, the game continues the story of the original by focusing on Miles Morales, who, as revealed at the end of the previous game, has acquired web-slinging powers similar to Peter Parker's. To tie the two games together, PlayStation and Marvel have revealed that a prequel novel to Spider-Man: Miles Morales will be released ahead of the game's November 12th launch.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales is itself acting as a bridge between Insomniac's previous PlayStation 4 exclusive Spider-Man game and a presumed sequel. The game shifts focus from Peter Parker to Miles Morales, as he comes to grips with his powers as Spider-Man and tries to break up a gang war between a criminal army lead by long-time comics villain The Tinkerer, and the Roxxon Energy Corporation, all while defending his hometown of Harlem.

The book's synopsis reads "With an exclusive adventure leading directly into the game itself, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales – Wings of Fury features Miles Morales coming to terms with what it means to be Spider-Man. A mix-up with the law leaves Miles questioning everything and when Vulture and his accomplice Starling unleash experimental tech on Marvel’s New York, Miles must decide what kind of hero he wants to be." The novel was announced alongside an art book, which will release in February 2021.

As previously mentioned, the novel will be titled Spider-Man: Miles Morales - Wings of Fury and will feature the iconic Spider-Man villain Vulture, who briefly appeared in the original game. The novel will be written by Brittney Morris, the author of SLAY, and will be 288 pages long. It will be released by Titan on November 10th and retail for $16.

While it will also be released on PlayStation 4, Spider-Man: Miles Morales is expected to take full advantage of the PlayStation 5's unique features. These include a mode prioritizing frame-rate and another which will run the game at 4K with real-time ray tracing. The game will also utilize 3D spacial audio techniques, take advantage of the PS5's SSD. The game is expected to be a shorter experience than the previous entry, with Insomniac drawing comparisons to Naughty Dog's Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, which is roughly 5-10 hours long. The game will retail at $49.99 to compensate for this.

The Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales - Ultimate Edition also includes a remastered version of 2018's Marvel's Spider-Man for PlayStation 5, which features a new face model for Peter Parker. There has been some confusion of how to access this version however, as those who do not purchase the game's Ultimate Edition only be able to play Marvel's Spider-Man through the PlayStation 5's backwards compatibility functions.

Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales will release on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on November 12th.
