Tom Holland — the actor playing Spider-Man in the MCU films — was initially supposed to have a cameo in Spider-Man Into the Spider-Versebut for reasons unbeknownst to fans at the time, it didn't pan out.

However, Spider-Verse recently held a QuarantineWatchParty, and Christopher Miller — a producer for the film — took to Twitter to give fans insight on it. When one fan happened to ask what became of Tom Holland's cameo, Miller provided a pretty surprising answer.

According to Miller, not only did the Spider-Verse production team want to have Tom Holland's Spider-Man make an appearance, but Tobey Maguire's (Spider-Man 1-3) and Andrew Garfield's (The Amazing Spider-Man 1 and 2) as well. They pitched the three Spider-Man actors along with Spider-Ham — who ended up making it — to Sony's brass, but it told them that it was "too soon," implying the first Spider-Verse film wasn't the best place to include the three actors.

This decision was probably a good one on Sony's part. Spider-Verse did a fantastic job introducing the masses to Miles Morales' Spider-Man, but he may have ended up overshadowed by the other three Peters if they had made an appearance. Now that Miles has a foothold, his meeting the Spider-Man trinity should work a lot better. Maybe the trio will make an appearance in the upcoming Spider-Verse sequel with Japanese Spider-Man.

The unnamed Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse sequel is set to release on October 7, 2022.
