With an open-world title such as Insomniac Games' upcoming Spider-Man, one question seems to always be on everyone's mind: "just how big is the map going to be?" Thankfully, the developer has an answer for us, even if it can't go into exact specifics just yet.

Responding to a recent tweet asking how large New York City will be in the upcoming Spider-Man for PS4, Insomniac Games replied with a claim that the map will be "several times larger" than Sunset Overdrive's 'Sunset City'.  Of course this still leaves the actual size fairly ambiguous, but it means that players will easily have enough room to explore the city as everyone's favorite web-slinger.

Chances are, the new Spider-Man map will still be far smaller than games such as The Witcher 3 or the more recent Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but this might be the largest explorable area we've ever seen in a Spider-Man game. In our time seeing the game at E3 2017, Insomniac confirmed that the game will focus on the main island of New York, and fans can expect to see plenty of familiar landmarks.

On top of that, fans can expect that there will be plenty to see and do, as well as a vast array of tall buildings to swing from. According to the developer, the all-important web-swinging is set to be based on physics and momentum, which is sure to have the wall-crawler shooting around the city, no matter the size.

While map size is sure to be important for the majority of fans, it's worth pointing out that Batman: Arkham Asylum had a relatively small amount of explorable space for a game so well-received. The highly-anticipated Spider-Man is confirmed to be taking inspiration from the Arkham games, though we'd say it certainly looks closer to Arkham City or Arkham Knight in terms of actual gameplay.

With all the excitement surrounding Insomniac's new project, it's certainly not difficult to see why Sony believes that this could be the game to push PS4 sales to 100 million. It's going to be hard to contain the hype until release, but we're sure the developers are getting ready to launch the best Marvel title since Spider-Man 2, and it's hopefully worth the wait.
