The stars of the upcoming film Spider-Man 3 have teased three different names for the third installment of the film franchise. On their respective Instagram accounts, Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Jacob Batalon shared stills from the movie, along with an image of what each one claims is the official title.

“Spider-Man: Phone Home”, “Spider-Man: Home Slice”, and “Spider-Man: Home Wrecker” were the three candidates presented to the millions of fans waiting for the official reveal of the name for the currently untitled project, which is due to release in December. Fans of the series erupted with joy online, before realizing that they were being trolled.

The three actors simultaneously shared the news on Instagram, offering fans a glimpse of three never-before-seen Spider-Man 3 images of the characters in action. All three images are stills from the upcoming film, taken in an unknown location, using dark tones. Holland is seen in his Peter Parker avatar, with no spider suit insight, and along with his friends MJ and Ned Leeds, the characters seem to be looking for something hidden, perhaps a secret.

Soon after the images appeared online, fans started celebrating the news and posted comments to express their excitement. But, then they noticed that on each post, the actors have also posted comments that made it clear that it was just a prank. On Holland’s announcement, Zendaya and Batalon commented seemingly confused about how their version of the name is different. They then posted their own versions of the name, but all three were in on the prank together, with jokes about each of them taking it up with the Spider-Man 3 director Jon Watts.

While it is clear that none of the three titles offered by the actors is the real one, the producers seem to be teasing an upcoming announcement. The three comical titles announced on Instagram all have one thing in common - the use of the word “home”. It is almost as if Marvel is hinting that they will be keeping the tradition from the previous two film titles going. The 2017 film was titled Spider-Man: Homecoming whereas the 2019 sequel was called Spider-Man: Far From Home.

It also seems like domain names are being registered for the upcoming film. Domain Name Wire spotted six website domain names that were recently registered for the film’s potential title. There is no confirmation from Marvel Studios or Sony on the same, so there is no way of knowing whether one out of the six titles is, in fact, the real one. It could potentially have been web users buying domains in the hopes of predicting the correct name and then selling it to the studio.

Marvel Studios' Spider-Man 3 will be out in cinemas on December 17, 2021.
