With Spider-Man: No Way Home set to round out Marvel Studio's theatrical releases for 2021, there are naturally high expectations for the film. Ever since the project was first announced in 2019, the internet has been plagued with all sorts of rumors regarding possible crossovers, from cameo appearances by the likes of Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange and Charlie Cox's Daredevil to the MCU debut of Spider-Man alum Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield as their versions of Peter Parker.

But most recently, all eyes have been on The Falcon and The Winter Soldier after a new photo reportedly from the set of the No Way Home was shared on social media. The photo featured a graphic of a prop that fans believe is suggesting Peter Parker's story will collide with Sam Wilson's.

Under a heading that reads "Meet NYC's newest (and tallest) Avenger," the image of the Statue of Liberty donning Captain America's iconic shield is shown, followed by the hashtag "#MyLibertyAvenger." According to Murphy's Multiverse, the Statue of Liberty prop will be featured in the backdrop of a key scene in No Way Home, which has raised speculation on the possible involvement of Anthony Mackie's Falcon and Sebastian Stan's Winter Soldier in the film's plot.

The prevailing theory has No Way Home tying into the final two episodes of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, possibly involving the government's launch of John Walker's Captain America. If not that, at the very least, there could be some form of a tribute to Steve Rogers, who will most likely not reprise his role any time soon. Of course, anything is possible at this point - after Avengers: Endgame and WandaVision introduced the concept of multiple timelines, it looks like the bulk of Phase 4 will be running heavy with the multiverse theme. Things in the MCU are going to get even messier once Loki drops on Disney Plus, so the possibilities for No Way Home will just continue to grow in anticipation of its theatrical debut.

No Way Home, in particular, is expected to explore these timelines in greater depth. The involvement of Sony's Doctor Octopus (Alfred Molina) and Electro (Jamie Foxx) has already been reported, as well as the possible return of Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe).

That said, Marvel has remained tight-lipped about any details regarding the film, and without any official statement, we can only take these rumors with a grain of salt. Still, it's exciting to think about what Marvel could do with the Spider-Man threequel.

Spider-Man: No Way Home arrives in theatres this December 17.
