Insomniac Games has been incredibly busy as of late, putting out Spider-Man: Miles Morales alongside the PlayStation 5 last year and releasing one of 2021's highest-rated games in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. At the PlayStation Showcase event, Insomniac announced a new Wolverine game that it's working on, and it also finally pulled the curtain back on Spider-Man 2, revealing some key details about the game in the process.

The Spider-Man 2 trailer features both Peter Parker and Miles Morales as they battle thugs in the streets of New York City. A mysterious voice can be heard in the background, talking about seeking out a challenger that can match their skill. This voice isn't identified in the trailer, but speculation suggests that it could be famous Spider-Man series villain Kraven the Hunter. But while that particular villain wasn't confirmed by the trailer, a different one was.

The trailer ends with none other than Venom (played by horror icon Tony Todd) accepting the mysterious voice's challenge. The symbiote that turns Eddie Brock into Venom in the comic books was teased at the end of the first Spider-Man game, but some may still be surprised to see Insomniac pull the trigger on Venom so early. In any case, fans will get to see how it all plays out when Spider-Man 2 launches in 2023.

It wasn't clarified du if Spider-Man 2 will be a cross-gen game. Upcoming PlayStation exclusives like God of War: Ragnarok and Gran Turismo 7 are cross-gen, but 2023 is a couple years out and it's quite possible that Sony will want to move on from the PS4 at that point. Time will tell, but for now all we know is that Spider-Man 2 is aiming to release for the PlayStation 5 at some point in 2023.

Besides the possible inclusion of Kraven the Hunter and the debut of Venom, it will be interesting to see what other villains make the cut for Spider-Man 2. Classic Spider-Man villain the Green Goblin seems like a distinct possibility based on the events of the first game, but then again, it's possible that he's being saved for a potential third entry.

It will also be interesting to see if Peter Parker gets his famous Symbiote suit before the creature latches on to Brock and creates Venom. With the game not out for a couple of years, there will be plenty of speculation as fans wait for the Spider-Man 2 release date to roll around.

Spider-Man 2 launches in 2023 for PlayStation 5.
