During the recent PlayStation showcase, Insomniac Games showed off the upcoming sequel to Marvel's Spider-Man, released in 2018. One new detail regarding Spider-Man 2 may leave some PS4 owners who aren't able to secure a PS5 in the dark.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales was released for both the PS4 and PS5 family of consoles in 2020. Being a cross-generational game, fans on either generation of PlayStation could play through the title regardless of how powerful their machine was. This allowed early PS5 adopters to appreciate the next-gen capabilities while PS4 owners weren't left behind.

Insomniac Games recently took to the official PlayStation Blog to discuss aspects of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 after its reveal during the PlayStation Showcase. One key detail that Insomniac confirmed regarding the upcoming sequel is that it won't be releasing for the PS4 family of consoles. On the other hand, PlayStation fans who own either the base or all-digital PS5 will be able to play Marvel's Spider-Man 2 when it releases.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will be exclusive to PS5 consoles due to Insomniac Games focusing on a title that takes full advantage of the next-gen console. Insomniac Games teased various things in the Marvel's Spider-Man 2 trailer, including one of the villains of the game being Venom. Spider-Man will also be receiving tons of new abilities and suits to use against the symbiote-fueled villain in the upcoming sequel.

The Insomniac Games team working on Marvel's Spider-Man 2 includes several familiar faces from the original, including creative director Bryan Intihar and game director Ryan Smith. Tony Todd from Candyman has also been confirmed by Insomniac Games as the chilling voice of Venom in the upcoming sequel. Yuri Lowenthal will be returning as Peter Parker, and Nadji Jeter will be returning as Miles Morales.

Insomniac Games and Marvel Games' partnership won't be ending any time soon, according to the confirmation of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine. Both teams are working closely together to ensure that both PS5 exclusives take full advantage of the hardware while accurately reflecting the comic book characters. The story of Spider-Man 2 will pick up where the original title and Miles Morales left off, expanding on both character's narratives.
