Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 might be connected to the Multiverse in some way, at least according to a blurb on the upcoming Miles Morales tie-in figure. The latest installment of Insomniac’s well-received Spider-Man series is set to swing onto the PlayStation 5 later this year, with Venom voice actor Tony Todd hinting that it could release in September, though it should also be noted that he has since attempted to downplay this reveal.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will pick up where 2018’s Marvel’s Spider-Man and 2020’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales left off, with Peter Parker and Miles Morales working together to protect the open-world landscape of New York City from various criminals and supervillains. This time, the threat comes from the monstrous Venom, whose presence was hinted at during the previous two games before his official debut in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Kraven the Hunter has also been confirmed, and past rumors have suggested villains like the Lizard, Mysterio, and the Sin-Eater could also appear.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s story looks to be pretty packed already, and now there are hints that the action could spill into Marvel’s dimension-spanning multiverse as well. CBR recently gained exclusive access to the upcoming Marvel Legends Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Miles Morales figure, which is set to hit stores this spring. The character bio on the back of the toy’s packaging describes Miles as the newest Spider-Man who "discovers allies and enemies across the multiverse - and at home in New York."

Spider-Man Miles Morales Phone Trick- Spider-Verse Suit

This text implies that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 could explore the Multiverse, or at least make a reference to Miles’s various travels across it. Indeed, the younger Spider-Man is no stranger to parallel realities, as his comic book incarnation was originally from Marvel’s Ultimate universe before crossing over into the mainline Earth-616. Miles’s recent big-screen adventures have also seen him transverse different dimensions and meet up with alternate versions of Spider-Man in 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and this summer’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

Of course, the text from Miles’s newest Marvel Legends toy could just be a shout-out to these extradimensional adventures, or even a hint that the Marvel’s Spider-Man version of Miles could make a cameo in Across the Spider-Verse just like Peter does in the film’s latest trailer. On the other hand, it could mean that the Multiverse will be referenced in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 in some capacity, possibly opening the door for nods and crossovers with other Marvel-branded games like Marvel’s Midnight Suns. In any case, if the Multiverse does appear in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 it likely wouldn’t be as part of the game’s main plot, given that Peter and Miles will already have their wall-crawling hands full with Venom.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is scheduled to release in 2023 on PS5.
