Update: Insomniac Games has denied that Spider-Man 2 will have co-op, insisting that it's a single-player game.

Original story follows.

The voice actor for Miles Morals in the Marvel's Spider-Man game series from Insomniac says during a convention Q&A session that Spider-Man 2 will feature co-op. Anticipation for the third game in the Spider-Man series of action games is building as a full reveal of the game is expected before long. Few expected Spider-Man 2 to be anything more than a single-player game, like the first two games in the series, though. The addition of co-op would be exciting, shocking, or eyebrow-raising, depending on fans' point of view.

Relatively little has been confirmed regarding Spider-Man 2 up to this point. The sequel was announced during the PlayStation showcase event in September 2021, confirming the return of Peter Parker and Miles Morales while also revealing that villain Venom would be joining the cast. No major announcements have been shared since, but Insomniac has clearly described Spider-Man 2 as a single-player game up to this point.

Plans may be different from what was originally pitched, however. A recording of Miles Morales voice actor Nadji Jeter from SacAnime Summer 2022, which occurred on September 4, 2022, was recently discovered online. Jeter did a Q&A session during a panel and was asked explicitly, "Is Spider-Man 2 co-op?" Jeter at first looks like he won't answer the question, but then responds, "I think it has been announced. I don't know if it's been announced or not, but I think so. Yeah."

Clearly, if his comments are accurate Jeter shouldn't be sharing this information publicly. Voice actors are typically under strict NDA to keep them from revealing any secret information. That Jeter believes the announcement has already been made may justify his actions somewhat, as he'd then be able to discuss the topic. Co-op for Spider-Man 2 has not been officially announced by Insomniac, though. If Jeter's comments are accurate, it's the first confirmation of co-op support in Spider-Man 2.

It's possible that Jeter isn't sure what he's talking about. Perhaps he believes that "co-op" refers to both Peter Parker and Miles Morales being playable in Spider-Man 2, rather than both being playable at the same time. Perhaps there's a separate game mode that allows for co-op. Or perhaps Jeter is entirely incorrect about the subject and was simply misinformed. There's no way to tell, yet.

If Spider-Man 2 remains a wholly single-player experience then it likely won't be long before Insomniac clarifies the situation. It could make a response to this leak or it could make a statement as part of the scheduled May 24 PlayStation Showcase. Insomniac could instead announce that co-op will be fully supported, too. Needless to say, Spider-Man fans will be watching anxiously.
