Marvel's Spider-Man has been celebrated since launch, with fans claiming it has redefined superhero games. One beloved feature of Marvel's Spider-Man is its open-world island of Manhattan, and the great breadth of traversal mechanics that players can master when web-swinging. However, one fan has another mechanic they would like to see implemented.

Insomniac Games was able to take Marvel's Spider-Man's traversal and elevate it further in Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, where players are able to use bioelectric Venom in mid-air to launch themselves forward. However, Miles' individual adventure was not a direct sequel to Marvel's Spider-Man, and fans have been wondering what Insomniac may add to the next game.

Reddit user wayne2420 shares a clip from Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) in which Spider-Man glides through New York City using underarm web-wings. They explain that the mechanic could add a fresh experience and open up new "traversal possibilities." From wall-running with animations along different surfaces to automatic animations as players run along the ground, there is a lot of room for Spider-Man to keep growing more complex. A gliding mechanic could change how players explore different corners of the city, and it could also be achieved in a number of ways in a Marvel's Spider-Man sequel.

For example, players have a number of Suit Powers they are able to equip to costumes in Marvel's Spider-Man. Gliding could be performed as a Suit Power, in which Spider-Man's underarm web-wings appear during a glide animation. This would work well with the costume for Spider-Man 2099, if developers decided to give the suit its iconic web cape. However, some fans think that a gliding mechanic would be too significant, and that it could not be limited to just a Suit Power. Perhaps the sequel to Marvel's Spider-Man could add web-wings as an ability for players to unlock in a traversal skill tree.

Spider-Man's gliding could also be compared to the gliding in Rocksteady's seminal Arkham franchise. As seen in the fan's provided clip, players may be able to soar between buildings at a much faster speed. Specific animations are also seen during traversal where Spider-Man leaps through fire escape scaffolding. Insomniac could potentially include more animations that have players narrowly gliding between environments.

Players are also able to web-zip between lampposts in Marvel's Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles Morales. With another traversal mechanic that brings players closer to street level, it would be interesting to see the amount of detail Insomniac could add.

Marvel's Spider-Man is available now on PS4 and PS5.
