Insomniac Games seems to be building up its own MCU through Spider-Man video games. Over the course of two games, the studio has fully introduced its version of Peter Parker and Miles Morales into this new video game universe. Both characters will see their grand return in Marvel's Spider-Man 2, and Wolverine will also make his debut in Marvel's Wolverine. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will further grow the Spider-Man family as Venom makes his debut, but Insomniac should not stop there; the studio should also give Spider-Gwen her time to shine.

Marvel's Spider-Man not only introduced Insomniac's version of Peter Parker, but it also saw the origins of Miles Morales' Spider-Man. The focus of the game was on Peter Parker's journey, so Insomniac chose to give Miles Morales a game as well. Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales served as both a launch title for the PS5 and a continuation of the Spider-Man story. It focused on Miles instead of Peter, and followed his journey in becoming his own Spider-Man. While it is unknown if Gwen Stacy will make her debut in the next game, if she does, then she also deserves a spin-off game.

Spider-Gwen Needs to Join the Spidey Family

Miles Morales, Peter B. Parker, and Gwen Stacy suited up in the multiverse to fight

Right now, Insomniac's Spidey family includes Miles Morales and Peter Parker. The next chapter in the story will see the introduction of Venom, but he will most likely not become an integral part of the Spidey family. If Insomniac wants to expand the Spidey family even further, then adding Spider-Gwen the mix would make the most sense. Her story would most likely bring multiverse shenanigans into the mix, which seems like an obvious direction that the franchise will go in.

Spider-Gwen brings with her a whole new origin and universe to explore. In her universe, the radioactive spider bit her instead of Peter Parker, and she became Spider-Woman. She was a big part of the Spider-Verse in the comics, and she saw her big screen debut in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. She has quickly become a fan favorite version of the character, and many fans have been calling for her introduction into Insomniac Games' universe.

The universe that Spider-Gwen comes from is very different from the mainline universe of Marvel Comics. In her universe, Peter Parker becomes the infamous Lizard and Spider-Gwen is forced to fight him. She accidentally kills him and the public brands her as a murderer. She is considered a public menace and has to fight villains while also protecting herself from the authorities. Insomniac Games' could alter this origin and replace Peter Parker with another character, like it did with the other Spider people, or it could move the franchise towards a multiverse storyline, since that concept seems to be all the rage right now.

A Spider-Gwen Game Could Fill the Gap Between Titles

Spider-Gwen in Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse

Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales helped to bridge the gap between Marvel's Spider-Man and Marvel's Spider-Man 2. It helped to build out Miles Morales' character so that he is ready for whatever the characters face in the upcoming sequel. It also let fans of the franchise get their Spider-Man fix on the PS5 while they waited for the sequel to even be announced. A Spider-Gwen focused game could help bridge the gap between Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and the inevitable third entry in the series.

If Insomniac kept Spider-Gwen's origins the same, then a Spider-Gwen game could be about that. Maybe the end of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will hint at a possible multiverse, or maybe that hint is saved for the Spider-Gwen game. The smaller title could let players experience this dark backstory in a brand-new universe before setting up the multiverse for the third entry. Players would be forced to fight that universe's Peter Parker, and they may even meet that version of Miles Morales. It would let Insomniac run wild with the design of New York City, while also telling another heart-wrenching story.

This entire concept is reliant on Insomniac Games' interest in pursuing the multiverse. The studio could also alter the backstory of Spider-Gwen to fit her into the current universe, and the spin-off game could show this new origin, or be more like Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales by letting players experience Gwen's struggles in becoming like Peter Parker. Gwen's backstory in the comics has been well received, and a change in the backstory may be the wrong move for Insomniac. The best way to introduce her may have to be through the multiverse, as long as that is where the story is headed.

Spider-Gwen Would Feel Different From Past Spider-Man Games

Marvel's Spider-Man introduced players to a fun-filled combat and swinging system. Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales added to this system by introducing Miles' electric powers. This helped make the game feel very different from the previous title, and it put a nice spin on the formula. Spider-Gwen does not have electric powers like Miles Morales does, but that does not mean the game would not feel different from previous titles. Not only could the game be in an entirely new universe, but the fighting style could also be more unique.

Insomniac Games could expand Gwen Stacey's roster of gadgets to make her feel more unique and help set the game apart. In the comics, her web shooters are given to her by the Wasp. If Insomniac kept that, then they could introduce gadgets that shrink or enlarge things. Into the Spider-Verse also added ballet shoes to her outfit, thus hinting at the possibility that she may be a dancer. This could lend to her fighting style as she moves in a lighter and more rhythmic nature than her male counterparts. Insomniac could also go to the extremes and give her a unique set of powers like Miles, though that may alienate some comic book fans.

Spider-Gwen has become much more popular recently thanks to her inclusion in Into the Spider-Verse. As Insomniac Games continues to build out its Marvel universe, it should consider adding Spider-Gwen to the mix. If it does, then it needs to give her a game much like Miles Morales' game to further do the character justice and give players even more Spider-Man mayhem to enjoy. At the end of the day, there is nothing wrong with more web-swinging action.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is currently in development.
