Secret areas, while not mandatory, are often sought after by players hungry for secrets, lore, and, most significantly, the rarest of treasures. The most well-hidden area that explorers enjoying Spelunky 2 can discover is the humorously named Eggplant World.

This realm of purple vegetables may be thematically funny, but it also represents the final area that can be reached, as it is only accessible through another secret area, the Sunken City. However, spelunkers will need to perform a lengthy list of specific tasks before they'll be able to pass through the bulbous violet gates that bar one's way into Eggplant World.

Everything Players Need To Do To Enter Eggplant World

player flying around lightning.

Step 1 - Trade A Present With Kali On A Bloodstained Altar To Obtain An Eggplant

The first step to reaching Eggplant World, appropriately, is to acquire an Eggplant. To do so, players will need to either buy a Present from a shop or collect one as a drop from a defeated Great Humphead, the latter of which can be found in level 4-2 of the Tide Pool in the water below where Excalibur rests in a stone.

With one of these mystery boxes in hand, spelunkers must then place the Present onto a Bloodstained Altar in order to give it to the mighty Kali. If the player is in the goddess' grace, she will exchange the Present for an Eggplant, which the player can put into their inventory.

Step 2 - Awaken The Eggplant Child Within The Moai In The Ice Caves

The next leg in one's pilgrimage to Eggplant World will entail a lot more adventuring, as the next step to unlocking the land of purple vegetables will lead the player to The Ice Caves, which can be reached after completing the Temple of Anubis or the Tide Pool areas.

In this relatively large and vertically-inclined map, spelunkers will need to make their way to the upper half of this location to find The Moai, a giant stone head, as well as the purplish altar next to it. Upon this altar, the player must place the Eggplant in order to open the door that is The Moai's mouth. Within will be a small sub-area where the player will meet the Eggplant Child, who one will need to escort safely to the location of the next step.

Step 3 - Escort The Eggplant Child To The Sunken City

Thankfully, the Eggplant Child will spend most of its time sleeping and can teleport to the spelunker's location whenever they enter a new area, meaning that players don't have to physically haul around the little purple fellow. This also means that the Eggplant Child will often hang out near the relatively safe entrance of each area, which is ideal, as enemies can hurt or kill them.

However, simply getting to the Sunken City is a challenge by itself, though, the easiest method is to perform a skip that utilizes a method of flying, such as a Hoverpack or a flying mount like Qilin. After passing through Neo Babylon, players will encounter the powerful boss Tiamat, but won't need to fight her in order to pass through her boss room. Simply fly up while avoiding the bolts of lightning to reach the safe area above Tiamat's throne to spot the entrance to the Sunken City.

Step 4 - Place The Eggplant Child On The Mother Statue

In level 7-1 of the Sunken City, there will always be a statue of a feminine figure next to the gate leading into Eggplant World where the player must place the Eggplant Child. After letting the vegetable kid rest gently upon the stony arms of the Mother Statue, players will be able to enter the adjacent entrance and explore the final secret area of the game.
