The battle royale genre has been turned on its head by Spellbreak. With unique weapons in the form of magical gauntlets, an interesting class and level up system both inside and outside of matches, and unlockable talents that change the way players can play, Spellbreak is a battle royale everyone should try (whether or not they liked Fortnite, Warzone, or PUBG).

Spellbreak’s talent system can be a bit confusing to new players. With three sections of Mind, Body, and Spirit, and 4 unlockable talents in each category, there’s a lot to choose from. Players will need to examine all of the options to know what to unlock and which talents to use.

15 Escapist (Spirit)

Escapist is the starting talent players possess from the Spirit category. With a low cost of 1 talent point, it can be a nice filler skill for players who fill out their talents with other expensive options. Escapist gives the player a minor speed boost after taking damage for 5 seconds ranging from +3 to +7. This boost is pretty minor and overall doesn’t offer much for experienced players who know how to fight and win.

14 Vital Stone (Spirit)

Spellbreak vital stone resurrection

The Vital Stone talent allows players to be revived on disruption, with the skill being refreshed after using a scroll and health recovery scaling from 10 to 50. At first glance, this seems like a great talent with resurrection being incredibly handy. Unfortunately, this skill often only delays an inevitable death with the recovered health being fairly minor. Additionally, it costs 3 talent points, and with only 6 to spend, that gets costly very quickly. This talent is unlocked by reaching rank 3 in the Pyromancer Class.

13 Finders Keepers (Body)

spellbreak opening a chest

The Finders Keepers talent is a useful utility talent. With an increasing chance to find scrolls ranging from 50% to 150% chance from chests, this can significantly increase the number of scrolls a player finds in any given match. The issue with this talent is that there often isn’t a chance for a player to read a scroll and once the talents are leveled up fully, scrolls aren’t necessary to find at all.

Overall, for a cost 2 talent, Finders Keepers just doesn’t offer the player enough of a tangible bonus that will help them win fights and matches. This skill is unlocked by leveling the Stoneshaper class to level 3.

12 Thirsty (Spirit)

The Thirsty talent can be incredibly beneficial for recovering health and armor after a fight, increasing potion and shard consumption speed anywhere from 50 to 100%, and spreading the recovery to nearby squadmates as well for 50% of the healing. While this can be incredibly beneficial, it ultimately falls flat due to Spellbreak’s dynamic mobility and fast-paced combat. With a cost of 2, it just won’t add enough to make a large difference in the midst of combat. This talent is unlocked by leveling up the Toxicologist class to rank 3.

11 Focused Mana (Mind)

Focused Mana allows players to deal more damage when they have over 80% of their mana remaining for a cost of 1 talent point. The damage increases from 15% to 30% with the addition of more scrolls. Overall, this talent is underwhelming. Most players will not stay at over 80% of their mana beyond 1 attack. The only class this skill really helps is Frostborn with their sniping. All players start with this talent in the Mind category.

10 Tracking (Mind)

Frostborn spellbreak tracking an enemy red outline

Tracking gives new players a way to easily follow and track opponents without using the Wolf’s Blood rune. On hitting an opponent they are outlined in red for a player’s entire squad for anywhere from 3 to 6 seconds. This also highlights invisible enemies, so it does offer some advantage, and can be very helpful for new players who are still getting used to camera movement and control on different platforms. However, for experienced players, this talent doesn’t offer very much. Tracking is unlocked at Frostborn rank 3 and costs 2 points.

9 Dexterity (Body)

At a cost of 1, Dexterity is one of the best talents in the game (situationally). Increasing jump height by a flat 25% and decreasing levitation costs by 15% to 30%, this talent can keep players in the air, which is helpful for most classes. Stoneshapers won’t gain much from this talent and will be hurt when opponents use it, as most other classes will want to keep to the sky to avoid hits and deal damage. This talent is unlocked by raising the Tempest class to rank 3.

8 Recklessness (Spirit)

The Recklessness talent offers a great deal of risk for an even greater deal of reward. For only 1 talent point, players can gain increased spell damage ranging from 15% to 25% and decreased mana costs also ranging from 15% to 25%. The downside of this spell is that it is only active when the player has no armor. This significantly hurts a player's survivability, but for players who are able to jump out of the way and kill before being killed, this might just make all the difference. Recklessness is unlocked at Frostborn rank 6.

7 Spellslinger (Mind)

The Spellslinger talent is a tricky talent to judge. For many players, being able to store extra gauntlets and runes in the inventory will be unwieldy and difficult to manage. On the other hand, it grants greatly improved customizability and options in the middle of a firefight. With a cost of only 1 and a sorcery cooldown effect ranging from 5 to 15% decreased times, this talent has a lot to offer. Spellslinger is unlocked at Tempest class rank 3.

6 Fervor (Body)

spellbreak fire vs lightning fight

Every player starts the game with the Fervor Body talent. For a cost of 2, players can increase the casting speed of their spells from 15 to 25%. For classes like Stoneshaper and Frostborn, this can greatly increase the speed of their slow spells. It makes less of a difference for Toxicologists and Conduit players, but this talent still has an important place.

5 Scavenging (Body)

spellbreak stone gauntlet user casting shockwave

Scavenging is a solid recovery option for skilled players. On exiling an opponent, players will recover 25 to 50 health and armor. This adds up very quickly for players who are skilled at exiling opponents in multi-group fights and makes the gameplay feel incredibly good. With only a cost of 1, this is a very useful skill for staying alive in the heat of battle and can make or break a fight in a crowded final circle. Scavenging is unlocked by leveling the Conduit class up to rank 6.

4 Harmony (Mind)

Harmony makes players immune to the slow, freeze, and shock effects caused by various spells and sorceries in the game. This can make a big difference for player mobility during fights against Frostborn, Conduit, or Toxicologist players.

This talent further decreases incoming damage by 5, 7, 10, and capping out at 15% with enough scrolls. With a cost of 3, this talent is expensive, but its benefits may outweigh its cost for many players. Harmony is unlocked by leveling the Toxicologist class up to rank 6.

3 Fortitude (Body)

Spellbreak fire gauntlet battle

Being able to absorb damage from an attack is a great tool for many players and makes Fortitude a worthwhile talent. With the potential for the barrier to reform anywhere from 60 to 30 seconds after being hit, this talent can make or break any successful twitch stream. What holds this talent back is its 3 point cost, which is fairly expensive. Fortitude is unlocked by leveling the Pyromancer class up to rank 6.

2 Recovery (Spirit)

spellbreak toxic user fighting fire user dragon fire

Recovery is an important talent for many playstyles. For only a cost of 2, it allows players to recover half of the health damage they take over time. With scrolls, the time of recovery lowers from 12 seconds to 6, allowing for a speedy recovery that outclasses most uses of potions for a player who takes their time throughout a fight. This is by far the best recovery (no pun intended) option in the game and is unlocked at Stoneshaper rank 6.

1 Runic Fluency (Mind)

spellbreak dash rune

In a game with so much of the gameplay depending on the fluid mobility options provided by runes (which is what makes Spellbreak so fun), Runic Fluency is a must-have talent for any playstyle with any class. With only a cost of 2, Runic Fluency increases the charge for any rune by 1 and decreases rune cooldowns anywhere from 5 to 15%. This is massive, allowing players to double dash, stay invisible for even longer, or fly across half the map. This talent is unlocked at Conduit class rank 3 and should be rushed as quickly as possible. It will improve gameplay 100%.
